lots of defending his character but not a lot of reflection on always making snarky comments, which is what actually got him in the situation. not much about how his actions affect others or how others feel either

To be fair, there were other messages which were sort of more reflective (I guess?) of this, but I'm not sure if it'd be okay to share them here in the thread. But ultimately I agree w you.

I think a break at least was very much needed here.

Let me clarify. Allstar is banned temporarily, not permanently. That was never really considered as an option, it was just Artemis who brought it up here in this thread. He replied in a very embarassing and inconsiderate way to Vader and he deserved to go for some time.

About permabans. IMHO it's a very delicate matter when it comes to 'veteran' members. Maybe this sounds elitist but let's face it, this is a dying community and if we start permabanning left and right, NF is done. I'm pretty sure Ruth agrees with me on that.

Based on my experience, the only veteran member who truly deserved to go -no questions asked- was RIFA, who literally turned insane and started harassing mods on social media outside of NF.

Having said that though, I do agree that Allstar has been walking on thin ice lately and patience is running low, not only on casual members but also on mods. Hopefully his time off will help, although he always seems to fall back on his usual habits. We'll see how it goes.
As an ex mod who probably holds the highest record for veteran perma bans, I beg to differ lol. If anything, I didn't do enough. If the traffic declines, too bad. I take quality over quantity any day.

I understand not wanting to permaban people left and right but at the same time, some veteran members are the reason why other members leave.

I've kind of stayed out of this, but I think this is the core issue at hand to consider. Some of his hostility is hard to forgive considering the prevalence and severity of it. I don't necessarily want Allstar gone because of the same reasons Vader and others have already said (and we all know how much I've had it out with the guy), but letting him get to the point where his hostility is single-handedly causing awesome long-time members here like Artemis or Vader to feel pressure to leave is a serious problem that I feel need to be addressed.

Once again, I'm not in favor of perma-banning him, but, if he's not, there needs to be the right amount of weight put behind this issue (which I think the mods are accurately taking into account). I'm in contact with several of you guys outside of NF as well, but I don't want to see this community hurt because this hub can turn out to be a strong space for discussion and fellowship. There's a reason a lot of us on here have been here so long, and conflict like this is what happens to friends that spend a lot of time together.

This is the real issue here and it's far from being just Allstar. Had I not been a huge fan of Nolan films and reading all the news and theories in that subforums, I'd be gone long ago. This place can be very hostile and unwelcoming for a couple of reasons:
- cliques (old users have this mentality around here that feels very unwelcoming of new users, plus there are a couple of camps around here and any unpopular opinion can get 5 shitposts about it from the same few users)
- taking film opinions way too seriously (if any new user doesn't like the movie the majority around here likes, he can get called names, like dumb, or outright told to leave the forum. I know some of the old posters around here might think this is said mostly jokingly but first of all, it's not funny, second of all, it's not obvious to new users and finally it needs to stop)
- tolerating outright hateful speech or trolling for too long and then banning someone for something mundane (there's a huge inconsistency in how moding is handled around here. People can really abuse these "jokes" and there's not even a warning, and then a person can write some opinion that the mods don't like and get banned or immediately warned. I know this forum is left leaning, as am I, but sometime someone says something unpopular around here and it immediately gets misinterpreted as baiting without any discussion. Such policing is creating a bubble and not a discourse forum.)

Even though I strongly dissapprove of his behaviours especially towards Vader and Artemis, I still prefer the guy over a good 95% of this forum.

Spending your free time in a room full of people you dislike, such a healthy long term relationship.

I'm not spending time with them lol. I try to mostly ignore them, staying here for the sake of people I like.

This is a place where people get personally offended by me saying Hollywood and English langauge are sexist even though I back it up with data and facts, and they feel the need to attack my character or belittle me or threaten me with banning. And the site's admin is fine with it.

And then you all come here preaching your bullshit and how you are all morally above this. Pff don't make me laugh.
