As a civil discussion, and anyone who is willing to answer these questions if they are religious themselves, I'd love for you to answer the questions I have for you below. This isn't an argument of any kind, I just want to hear your views on things, and I'd like to contrast them with my own non-religious views.

1.) How do you feel about non-religious views concerning what religion's message is. This example: religion is used to control the masses, not enlighten them.

2.) What is the absolute reason for believing your religion? Does it serve as one mass purpose in life? Does it make life easier?

3.) What are your views on "brainwashing". You will admit that there are numerous ways that a child can be forced into being religious. Whether that be through a families religious reviews, or via other means, even going as far as saying educational force. If you are part of a religious family, do you have the right to not believe in a religion and still be respected? I'm curious about this, if anyone here has been in/knows someone in this situation.

4.) What do you believe happens after death? From a scientific (but not entirely reliable) point of view, your brain shuts down and your body/brain loses all consciousness, like before you were born. What are your views on heaven/hell, life after death? As far as I am aware, there is nothing in the Bible concerning individual life before birth, but there is plenty of stories as to what lies after death (referring to my point about religion basically being a guide, and something to "look forward to").

Damn, I've made this sound like some kind of compulsory school exam or something.

Recently I've gone back to trying to explore the evidence part or religious beliefs. I've really been trying to find out validity for such things as the resurrection of Jesus, things in the bible, etc.

I can't seem to find a general consensus from historians, etc online. Done a lot of searches, but mostly comes from Christian websites whose "evidence" does not seem to be actual evidence at all. It seems that these beliefs and events do, in fact, have no validity from what I hear, but I really want to either find some facts and/or testimony from credible sources on the validity of such things.

I started watching movies such as "The Case for Christ" in which a former atheist turned to Christianity. In the beginning he goes to people he calls "experts" on the historical evidence for the bible and it's validity in truth. Problem is these "experts" are either from divinity school, seminaries, or Christian universities. For some reason this seems a slight conflict of interest....and that's what I see a lot of when trying to prove Christianity, God, etc.

So thus far I am still an atheist.

I think there has been a lot of good that has come out of religion, the world would have been a completely different and likely gloomier place without religion. Churches and other religious organizations provide charity and can provide support for its members that other facets of society and government cannot.

The problem arises when it is used to oppress, govern, or assimilate people. Religion is a belief system, it is not a means to control, change, or rule on a large scale.

You're right, it's the hard truth.

I would love to hear your input on this, not only because it provides good discussion, but also because it will allow us to show you how easy it is disprove much religious doctrine.
If she plays cranium she gives good brainium.

Online religious discussions are inherently futile. That is all.

lmao @ this thread. It's hilarious.

Religion is a tool because everything in the world could be used as a tool. Democracy is a tool. Socialism is a tool. Your physics teacher can be a tool and so on. WWE is a tool.

Why all the moaning? Women (and men) are tools also. Actually, we had more wars because of women than because of religion or politics...

Back up this claim.

The issue is not whether it is a tool, it's about the fact that it is an improperly used tool.
