The world is dumber. And there are many reasons why.

But the possibilities of that to change are so high because we are in front of knowing a greater knowledge. However we refuse to learn anything and decide to spend our time playing 5 hours/day of Black Ops and chatting on twitter.

So, instead of taking advantage of the possibilities we have, we neglect them and we're actually becoming dumber than people were 1000 years ago, not to mention 4 to 5 thousand years ago.

Don't confuse access to technology with being smart. There are few who work in the interest of the world. The masses are dumb as hell.

The more I hang at these forums, the more I gotta agree.
to DISAGREE!
It's a lot up to ones perception. If you choose to watch tv or read the tabloids or hang at shitfacebook 24/7, of course the world has become dumber. Global warming for instance was a lovely hype, and the masses bought it which is a shame. Same with the swineflu hysteria. If the topic starter could make his point of what has made the world dumber for him, I'd like to know. Religion does not have its insane grasp any more, we live longer, science is helping our evolvement, computers assists in finding other worlds and helps understanding our own, and we breed in the insane masses (Just 100 years ago, there were only 1.5 billion on the planet, now it is soon 7)

I would rather say, the western world has become a lot [lazier] compared to the rest.

in the past there were people who would had killed their own daughters just because they weren't boys. there were people who would had burned women alive whom they were suspicious of being sorcerers, or people who would had thought that they have to kill a lot of innocent people because of God's orders.
well except the third one there are barely any sign of doing these kinds of things in the new world. (Of course there are a lot of other idiocies in the world now but obviously most societies (the masses) are acting more civilized) a few questions come to mind:

1. Is this because all the people are getting smarter or because just smarter people are getting smarter?
2. Is this because people are getting more limited and otherwise they would've been acting almost the same as the elder people?
3. Is violence always the result of idiocy or more intelligence can also come up into more violence sometimes?

- and by smarter I don't mean more educated. I mean, having more abilities for learning about the outside world.

Uhm that's not what smarter means. What you're talking about is "intelligence"...

Having more abilities for learning means you're a more intelligent person. An intelligent person always knows how to collect data from various sources.

Having more knowledge means that you're smarter. You can be smarter only if you posses more information. (it has nothing to do with the process of learning)

Wisdom is the final and ultimate step which helps you use your intelligence carefully and use your smartness in a constructive way for the benefit of you or/and your people/the people around you.

Another thing... don't confuse religion exploitation with being smart or dumb.

People were and still are killed in the name of one God or because of some stupid laws that make no sense. However...

The people in those periods of time were much more down-earthed in a moral way.

Imagine you had only 4 choices in the past:

1. Educate yourself and dedicate your life to knowledge.
2. Join the army and become a protector of your land.
3. Remain a peasant and provide for your family the way you can.
4. Join the church or whatever other religion "sanctuary" and dedicate your life to teachings of your God.

Many peasant were illiterate but more intelligent actually then our peasants are today.
People right now think that little knowledge gained on the internet is enough so they resume to regular jobs and playing on PlayStation or watching football games.
People right now are more LAZY because technology allows them. People in that era couldn't be lazy because they would have pretty much died in days. They had to do something. Now you could do 100000000000000 things that require no intelligence or smartness and still make some money. In that period of time you had few choices and in at least 2 of them you had to gain some sort of knowledge spiritual or material.

Good judgement comes from experience, and often experience comes from bad judgement.

There are way too many that does not speak from experience, and instead simply speak from their own perception.
I think people always will believe what they want to believe, don't you all?
