The head of the National Transportation Safety Board said the agency "is working vigorously to understand what caused" the Feb. 3 train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio.
In a rare series of posts on Twitter on Thursday evening, NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy issued "a message to the community" as well as "a plea to those spreading misinformation."
She added: "Nothing...nothing is more important than accuracy at a moment like this, which is why the NTSB is deliberate in our approach to investigations. Credibility is ESSENTIAL to our lifesaving mission. The NTSB process WORKS.
The NTSB chair addressed speculation that a rule on electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) breaks -- if implemented -- would have prevented the train derailment, which she said was "FALSE."
"The ECP braking rule would've applied ONLY to HIGH HAZARD FLAMMABLE TRAINS. The train that derailed in East Palestine was a MIXED FREIGHT TRAIN containing only 3 placarded Class 3 flammable liquids cars," she tweeted. "This means even if the rule had gone into effect, this train wouldn't have had ECP brakes."
Finally, Homendy urged members of the public to let her agency lead the investigation.
No word yet if Republicans are also suing to make the prices higher as they push repeals of the Inflation Reduction Act in Congress.

Joe Biden cares more about the people in Ukraine than the American people in Ohio. It was excellent to have a President who put America first from 2017-2021. I have legitimate questions about how someone who never believed America was great and has signs of cognitive decline received eighty-one million votes. He never makes sense when he speaks.
In recent weeks, the Biden administration had looked at reducing the number of approved drilling pads down to two and boosting nature conservation measures to try to assuage concerns climate and environmental groups had about the project. Reducing the drill-pads to two would have allowed the company to drill about 70% of the oil they were initially seeking.
But ConocoPhillips and Alaska's bipartisan congressional delegation aggressively lobbied the Biden White House and Interior Department for months to approve three drilling pads, saying the project would not be economically viable with two.
The venture was ultimately approved with three drilling pads. The administration felt it was constrained legally and had few options to cancel or significantly curtail the project -- which was initially approved by the Trump administration. The administration determined that legally, courts wouldn't have allowed them to fully reject the project, two government sources familiar with the approval told CNN.
Jacob Kornbluh, senior political reporter at @jdforward: “It seems this triggered Biden’s comments today. Tom Friedman featured today Netanyahu’s claim that the U.S. government was behind the protests https://nytimes.com/2023/03/28/opinion/israel-protests-benjamin-netanyahu.html It’s known that Biden has the New York Times app on his phone and reads Friedman That’s when Biden became (angry)”
It must undergo a lengthy approval process, however, and it’s almost certain to face challenges. While opponents sharply criticized the proposal, some advocates for transgender athletes were concerned that it did not go far enough.
There are some contradictory writeups out there, but I do know this:
The administration should stick to the pro-equality position and let the opposition sue against it and litigate it. Even if it likely would have been thrown out in the courts because they're right-wing courts.
Meanwhile Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy tweeted that he (McCarthy) is in favor of dirty water because corporations/businesses want dirty water.
I'm not a Democrat, but I'm not opposed to coming out and donating And voting for Robert F Kennedy JR in the primaries. He's a Democrat Republicans can vote for. I want Kennedy to oust Biden from power.

Hope this new project works better for you than the Kanye West one, which would practically mean anything at least slightly above the disaster level.

Thank you! It's refreshing that a friend of liberty is running as a Democrat. I grew up in a Democrat home. I couldn't champion Gore, Kerry, Hillary, Obama, or Biden. They wanted the big government, something President Clinton wasn't for. I like RFK JR on where he stands and says vote for him if the Bill of Rights and the Constitution are still relevant to voters and fighting corruption. There is corruption in the government. His dad's and uncle's assassinations are proof of that. I love how he laid into Biden's government on April 3 on Twitter over the American dollar that will get replaced as the world standard and how China, Iran, Russia, and Saudi Arabia allied. Biden has got to go.
