Mr. Biden’s lawyer Abbe Lowell has also signaled that any appeal would be based on the Supreme Court’s landmark decision in 2022 that vastly expanded gun rights, a ruling that spawned legal challenges to the part of the federal firearms form at the center of the Biden case. In Mr. Biden’s case, it included a question asking buyers about their drug use.
The Biden administration is making plans to announce one of the largest immigration relief programs in recent history, developing a policy that would offer legal status to hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the country without proper documents, four people familiar with the plans told CBS News.
A program being developed by White House officials would offer work permits and deportation protections to unauthorized immigrants married to U.S. citizens, as long as they have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years, the sources said, requesting anonymity to talk about internal government plans.
The proposal, known as "Parole in Place," would also open up a pathway to permanent legal status and U.S. citizenship for some beneficiaries by removing an obstacle in U.S. law that prevents those who entered the U.S. illegally from obtaining green cards without leaving the country.
Another plan being prepared by the Biden administration would streamline the process for so-called DREAMers and other undocumented immigrants to request waivers that would make it easier for them to obtain temporary visas, such as H-1B visas for high-skilled workers, the sources said.
CLAIM: Biden froze onstage during his fundraiser in Los Angeles on Saturday night and had to be led away by Obama.
THE FACTS: Biden paused amid cheers and applause as he exited the stage with his predecessor following an interview moderated by late-night host Kimmel.
RFK Jr deserves to be in the CNN debate. Robert polls high enough and is the only candidate talking about actual issues like drugs, chronic disease, mental health, inflation, housing affordability, our debt, the border crisis, and censorship. My American brothers and sisters, please don't settle for the Lesser Evil Fight for the Greater Good vote in Kennedy Shanahan 2024!
NBC News - Kennedy family members endorse Biden over RFK Jr. Former Rep. Joseph Kennedy III told NBC News in an exclusive interview that he thinks his the candidacy of his uncle, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., "poses a threat to the country that I love."
He’s also running for president as an independent after being unceremoniously tossed aside by the Democratic Party. So how’s that going for him?
Not well.
Kennedy is a well-known liar, and the saga of his vice-presidential pick is exhibit A. On March 18, he said he would never pick a running mate “based on how much money they have.” A month later, he handpicked philanthropist Nicole Shanahan, ex-wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, based on how much money she had (reportedly over $1 billion). She had already donated $4 million to Kennedy’s super PAC to air that infamous Super Bowl ad that stole from John F. Kennedy’s 1960 ad.
It was estimated that Kennedy needed to spend $15 million to get on the ballot in just 12 states, and was lagging far behind the fundraising of President Joe Biden ($306 million as of May 21) and Donald Trump ($244 million). Shanahan’s pocketbook was just too irresistible to pass up.
Indeed, this withering article in The Washington Post effectively highlighted how irrelevant Shanahan was to the campaign trail, headlining the piece, “RFK’s strange non-relationship with his VP pick.” He had no clue what she was doing, where she was going, what media she was doing, or really, anything about her. The campaign has done nothing to coordinate her message with Kennedy’s, nor apparently even coach her.
Thing is, Shanahan’s money didn’t change everything, nor, apparently, anything. “Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign is on financial life support,” wrote Politico in a hilarious piece, noting that his campaign would be in debt without a $10 million infusion from Shanahan. But that is far from what he needs to be a proper spoiler.
Kennedy hadn’t hit CNN’s polling threshold of 15% in at least four approved national polls, having only reached that mark in three surveys ahead of the deadline. He also fell short of the network’s ballot criteria, which required candidates to secure access in enough states to win 270 electoral votes, a significant task for a third party at this point in the election cycle.
According to an NBC News analysis, Kennedy is currently on the ballot in 10 states, but is held up in verification status or application windows in a handful of others.
Kennedy’s absence from the stage next week will be a blow to his long-shot campaign as he seeks to gain ground on the presumptive major party nominees.
Whelp, what a terrible debate performance. Maybe Biden needs to gracefully bow out and let someone else be the Democratic candidate at this point. If THIS is the best the Dems have to offer, their party is in deep trouble. You have to be a lunatic if you think that this debate was anything other than a historically bad performance. It's also that everyone else could clearly see that with their own eyes. There's no place to hide at this point. It's not his fault that he's old but it is his fault that he decided to run again. The Dems will not beat Trump with Biden, especially when he's alienating a bunch of voters with terrible decisions like his enabling of Israel's actions in Gaza for months.
The only way you could come away from that debate and NOT think it was a disaster is if you were going to support Biden no matter what he did or said going in. It's also not just a mater of him remembering facts but it's rather an epic failure in effective communication. Like it or not, US politics is about soundbites and the Republicans got plenty of fodder for their campaign ads from that debate and Biden fumbled his one goal: to convince the voters that he's still able to do the job. I don't think the Dems realise what kind of game this is tbh. Trump knows that it's about appearances and surface-level stuff and sadly (because I can't stand Trump at all) he came off looking better than Biden....shame on the Dems for allowing this to get to this point.
If you want to run into that iceberg ahead that's on you. Don't blame the messenger but at this point I doubt you'd even be able to, since even members of the Democratic party and the part of American media that is sympathetic to Democrats are clearly panicking about Biden's chances of winning the election at this point.
The only way to get Biden to drop out is to convince him to drop out and I have serious doubts as to the chances of success of that endeavour. So unless he allows himself to be convinced to leave the stage to someone else, I'm afraid this Titanic will hit that iceberg...and sadly everyone else will suffer the consequences.
If democracy mattered so much to the Democrats they wouldn't allow a candidate this weak to go up against Trump who enjoys blind support from his cultish base.
The system includes four factors based on politics, seven on performance, and two on candidate personality. Lichtman said the incumbent party would need to lose six of those actors, or “keys,” to lose the White House.
The keys range from whether a candidate is an incumbent president to the state of the economy and the presence of third-party hopefuls.
Debate performance, however, is not one of the factors that determines the outcome of an election, he argued. Lichtman pointed to historical examples, including the 1984 election in which former President Ronald Reagan swept 49 states despite poor debate performances and concerns over his age.
Nielsen numbers
Sep. 2016 first debate: 84 million viewers (no incumbent)
Sep. 2020 first debate: 73 million viewers (Trump incumbent)
Jun. 2024 first debate: 48 million viewers (Biden incumbent)
Political Wire - Biden Raised $27 Million After Debate The Biden campaign has raised $27 million starting from the day of the first presidential debate through Friday evening, CNBC reports.Bloomberg: Biden seeks to reassure anxious donors.
[RFK Jr.'s wife] Mary became distraught, weeping and drinking and struggling to get out of bed, the book says. Robert tried to forcibly hospitalise her, telling her that she would be "better off dead". Callahan interviewed Mary's therapist, Sheenah Hankin. When Robert asked for Mary to be diagnosed as mentally ill, Hankin refused, telling him: "Your wife isn't mentally ill. She is angry and depressed, but she is not ill."
Robert began dating the actor Cheryl Hines, who played Larry David's wife on Curb Your Enthusiasm. He cut off Mary's credit card and access to cash. Broke, she had to ask other mothers for an extra $20 so she could buy petrol and groceries.
Finally, she hanged herself at home. The book recounts how Mary had put on her yoga clothes and sandals, and walked out to her barn. "When she was found that afternoon, Mary's fingers were stuck inside the rope around her neck. She had changed her mind. She had tried to save herself."
Against her family’s wishes, Mary was buried in the Kennedy family plot in Massachusetts near Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of John F Kennedy. But, Callahan writes, “one week later, in the middle of the night, without telling Mary’s siblings or obtaining the required legal permitting, Bobby Kennedy Jr had Mary’s coffin dug up and moved seven hundred feet away … Mary was left to face traffic, no headstone marking her grave, buried alone”.

RFK JR is the most genuine candidate running for the White House! Arnold got accused of the same thing in 2003, and so did Biden and Trump, and It did not damage any of them to lose in 2003, 2016, and 2020. This vanity fair story attempts to smother a great candidate who’s bad for business as RFK JR threatens the status quo.
You had to see that debate for a couple of days. I watched the real one hosted by Twitter. That debate got more views than CNN. House Democrats want him gone. People freaked out. They could have had RFK JR, but they wanted the senile guy. His family should be ashamed. The First Lady Jill Biden should get brought up on elderly abusive charges. She is using him for power.
Biden was also due to conduct an interview with Earl Ingram of Civic Media’s The Earl Ingram Show in Wisconsin, a second critical swing state to which he will travel Friday and where he will be interviewed by Stephanopoulus.
Biden needed to do the right thing and let a better candidate be the nominee and he couldn't do it. Such a bad, sad joke. If democracy is supposedly on the line in the US (and it very much seems like it is), you don't run an epically weak candidate that polls this badly against Trump. Any generic Democrat would probably be in a better position at this point. If you are saying that Joe Biden is the best the Democrats have to offer I might think you're a Republican at this point...The terrible presidential debate last week convinced a lot of people of one thing: that Biden should not be the Democratic candidate. And he's staying in for what? So he can pursue his own personal hero's journey? Because Jill Biden likes living in the White House? That's not good enough.
This is not a game for the millions of people who don't want to live in a far-right fascist country and whose lives are at risk if Trump wins. Maybe Biden supporters should actually be serious for one second and ask themselves if they are defending democracy by supporting Biden or if, by supporting Biden, they are enabling fascism by making sure the Dems lose the presidential election.
