The sad thing is, 70 million people voted for Trump after they got to see what he was doing for 4 years so I don't expect impeachment to put an end to trumpism, since that's essentially just the Republican base.
Trump's not an aberration, the Republican base chose him among 17 possible candidates in 2016. That's why it also makes no sense for Democrats to want to compromise with the Republicans. The other House Republicans who didn't vote to impeach him might not say the quiet parts out loud like Trump does but their policies are essentially the same and they are too cowardly, fascist and craven to stand up to their violent, authoritarian base in this case.

Axios - Poll: Republicans favor Greene over Cheney
Conspiracist Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is far more popular than Rep. Liz Cheney among Americans who align with the Republican Party, according to a new Axios-SurveyMonkey poll.

Why it matters: As the House GOP caucus is being torn over calls to yank Cheney from congressional leadership for backing Donald Trump's second impeachment, and strip Greene from committee assignments for her baseless conspiracy theories and violent rhetoric, these findings show how strongly Trumpism continues to define most Republicans. [.................]

By the numbers: McCarthy enjoys the highest favorable versus unfavorable ratings (net favorability) of the four among Republicans, at 38%-16% (+22); followed by Greene, at 28%-18% (+10); McConnell, at 31%-46% (-15); and Cheney, at 14%-42% (-28).
Marjorie Taylor Greene Is on Her Way to Becoming a Household Name - Morning Consult
  • * 46% of voters nationwide have views about Greene, up 21 points since August 2020.
  • * A third of voters hold unfavorable views of Greene while 13% hold favorable views.
  • * Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) have each seen their popularity decline among Republicans nationwide in recent weeks.

McCarthy and Greene voted to steal the election from Biden for Trump in accordance with the insurrection and Cheney and McConnell did not. That's why. McConnell postures against Trump now (but doesn't follow through with votes) and Cheney voted for impeachment of Trump. It's a Trump cult: Cheney had a more pro-Trump agenda voting record than Trump's sword against Cheney, Matt Gaetz, did. But loyalty and madness matters more than voting record to today's Qpublican party.

I don't think enough Republican Senators will suddenly discover what having principles means and convict him.

Also, the Republican Party is now firmly the Trump Party so just because the guy's no longer in office does not mean all the awfulness of the Republican Party suddenly vanishes. The Democrats who pretend that Trump was the exception to the rule and that it makes sense to compromise to Republicans in the name of empty bipartisanship are the real fools.
