Texans can carry handguns without a license or training starting Sept. 1, after Gov. Greg Abbott signs permitless carry bill into law (2021)

Guns laws have become more lax over the past 10 years, not the opposite.

In 2012, the Sandy Hook shooring occurred where 20 children and 6 members of the school personnel were murdered and the US didn't do much of anything in terms of gun legislation. Sadly, I don't think anything will be done now on the federal level either.

I feel the same way, there's too many people who care solely about their own power in government and donations and not protecting the people and acting.

NY Times - Trump Said to Have Reacted Approvingly to Jan. 6 Chants About Hanging Pence
Shortly after hundreds of rioters at the Capitol started chanting “Hang Mike Pence!” on Jan. 6, 2021, the White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, left the dining room off the Oval Office, walked into his own office and told colleagues that President Donald J. Trump was complaining that the vice president was being whisked to safety.

Mr. Meadows, according to an account provided to the House committee investigating Jan. 6, then told the colleagues that Mr. Trump had said something to the effect of, maybe Mr. Pence should be hung.

Bloomberg News - Insurrectionists May Be Barred From Office, [Federal] Court [of Appeals] Rules
Candidates who take part in an insurrection may be barred from holding public office under the 14th Amendment of the US Constitution, a federal appeals court ruled, overturning a lower court judge’s decision.

The US 4th Circuit Court of Appeals issued the ruling Tuesday in a challenge to former North Carolina Representative Madison Cawthorn’s candidacy for the House of Representatives. Cawthorn lost his bid for a second term in the Republican primary race last week.
If SCOTUS doesn't overturn this (don't hold out for that not happening), this is another way Trump could potentially be banned from office besides removal by the Senate after Impeachment.

Politico - Read the Trump-world legal memo that a judge ruled was likely part of a criminal effort to overturn the election.

CBS News - Email to Giuliani reveals plan to keep Trump in office on Jan. 6, court records show
Attorney Kenneth Chesebro sent an email to former New York Mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani on Dec. 13, 2020, with detailed plans that would put then-Vice President Mike Pence and Senate president pro tempore Chuck Grassley, Republican of Iowa, in central roles in the Congress' joint session. The email's subject line read, "Brief notes on 'President of the Senate' strategy."
Once recused, the email continued, Grassley or another senior Republican majority member would become the presiding officer of the joint session and begin the election certification [to install Trump as President].
Grassley's office said in a statement that neither the senator nor his staff "were aware of the memo or it's arguments before it was publicly reported well after President Biden took office. Nobody approached the senator or his office about such a plan."
And yet...
