The connections thematically are many.

NoMoreDeadCops wrote:My friends and I (along with many others I've heard or read discussing the film) can't seem to figure out why the old man makeup approach was chosen for Pearce's character, Weyland. Pearce was great and IS always great in my opinion, but given that the awesome viral marketing clip of Pearce giving that awesome speech as Weyland was not present in the actual film, couldn't they have just gotten an actual, you know, old man to play old Weyland? I'm not criticizing the choice exactly (even though the old man makeup effects were glaringly less impressive than the rest of the movie's beautiful visuals) I'm just really curious as to whether or not anyone knows why this choice was made. It's one of the few nitpicks I had about the movie...okay that's not true I have a lot but it's one of the few that I can't seem to easily overlook. Thoughts?
This is the real reason.

Oh, and as for why Weyland is played by Guy Pearce in old-man makeup, Spaihts says Damon Lindelof's script showed the android David going inside Weyland's dreams while he was in hypersleep — and in his dreams, Weyland is a young man, on a yacht surrounded by beautiful women. These dream conversations got cut, but Pearce's casting was already locked in. Scott had originally wanted to cast Max von Sydow as Peter Weyland. (In Spaiht's script versions, Weyland isn't aboard the Prometheus at all — instead, there's a hidden squad of company soldiers.)
P.S - Prince, any speculation about the significance of the girl playing the violin?
when Dr Shaw enters Vickers' ejected pod in the end of the movie, there is a girl playing a violin in the hologram on the wall - the same girl playing a violin who was a part of a mixture of various scenes David was repeatedly looking at throughout the movie [to check whether David was capable of having emotions?]. The girl had black hair, so it certainly isn't Vickers. And it wasn't young Shaw either. So then who is she?

I believe the clip of the girl playing the violin was part of a "message" from humanity, sent towards LV-223. Not unlike the one currently on Voyager 1. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voyager_Golden_Record) Sadly so far; No response.

Exactly, was just gonna say that. It's no wonder it has music (violin is created by Da Vinci), the vetruvian man and the mona lisa. After they woke up from cryo she was checking if there was an answer. The appearance of the hologram at the end, when Cuddles was about to hug Engi, has a signifficance close to irony. Like, this is how much the current events and our creators care about our scientific achievements.

Oh, wow. Didn't consider that all. I thought those were a set of holograms designed to test if David was capable of developing emotions. [Though, in hindsight, I wonder why I thought so.]

Our origin in Prometheus is similar to the Islamic human origin where we're made through a clot of blood from a higher entity.

Cameron making the sequel Prometheuses
Having laughed well, I must say I loved the film spite its high flaws in writing and science.
