Emily Blunt Joining Tom Cruise in All You Need Is Kill
Variety reports that Emily Blunt is in talks to join Tom Cruise in director Doug Liman's All You Need Is Kill. The film is an adaptation of the Japanese novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka which is described as follows:

There's one thing worse than dying. It's coming back to do it again and again... When the alien Gitai invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many raw recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor and sent out to kill. Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to find himself reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On the 158th iteration though, he sees something different, something out of place: the female soldier known as the B*tch of War. Is the B*tch the key to Keiji's escape, or to his final death?

Blunt will play another soldier who fights alongside Cruise.

Erwin Stoff, Tom Lassally and Jason Hoffs are producing through 3 Arts Entertainment. Dante Harper wrote the script with Joby Harold.

Sounds like this has some potential.

Vulture:
All You Need is Kill is an adaptation of the novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka that Warner Bros. acquired for seven figures in the spring of 2010. Screenwriter Dante Harper’s adaptation of it tells the story of a young Army recruit who, despite being killed in the first day of intergalactic alien invasion of Earth, is continually resurrected Groundhog Day–style to the day before he was killed. For months, the problem with the movie was its third act: Eventually, it begins to play like a big-screen version of Halo, where the protagonist dispatches aliens in the same rote way as a twelve year old who’s played too much X-Box 360. However, it appears that a new draft of the Kill script has resolved this to the studio’s satisfaction.

Brad Pitt was initially courted for the lead role, but backed out of the project due to other commitments.
It seems that Emily Blunt will play Valkyrie One, one of humankind’s best soldiers. Looks like that is the "Bitch of War" role? Will be interesting to see Blunt in a hardcore action role.

Official synopsis:
The story unfolds in a near future in which a hive-like alien race, called Mimics, have hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, shredding great cities to rubble and leaving millions of human casualties in their wake. No army in the world can match the speed, brutality or seeming prescience of the weaponized Mimic fighters or their telepathic commanders. But now the world’s armies have joined forces for a last stand offensive against the alien horde, with no second chances.

Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously demoted and then dropped—untrained and ill-equipped—into what amounts to little more than a suicide mission. Cage is killed within minutes, managing to take an Alpha down with him. But, impossibly, he awakens back at the beginning of the same hellish day, and is forced to fight and die again…and again. Direct physical contact with the alien has thrown him into a time loop—dooming him to live out the same brutal combat over and over.

But with each pass, Cage becomes tougher, smarter, and able to engage the Mimics with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt), who has lain waste to more Mimics than anyone on Earth. As Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated battle becomes an opportunity to find the key to annihilating the alien invaders and saving the Earth.
