There is a nice bit in Kermode's book (The good the bad the multiplex) where he lauds Pfister for championing shooting on film ("I'm not gonna trade my oil paints for some crayons") Good that while Kermode acknowledged Transcendence isn't near good, he defends it for being ambitious. Guy's gotta hard-not for films that are made purely for lowest common denominator crap (Transformers, Sex And The City 2 etc)
Still don't get Kermode's Efron love over Brando though :?:

Oh, he did acknowledge it as good. He also said it would be considered a classic in 3 years' time (Or something like that).

Kermode's obsession with Pfister is retarded anyway. I assume it has something to do with Pfister starting out in the erotic thriller genre. A genre Kermode inexplicably loves. Don't most cinematographers start out in disreputable genres? Why is it such a big deal for him that Pfister's made the climb from Amityville Horror Part 8 and softcore porn to Nolan's movies?

The crux is I've listened to Kermode for years and I *never* hear him mention cinematographers. Ever. So all throughout cinema only Pfister deserves mention? OK.

Also no idea why he credits Pfister for shooting on film. Pfister only shoots on film because Nolan wants him to. Credit Nolan, not Pfister. If Bennett Miller wanted Pfister to shoot Moneyball digitally, Pfister would have done so. He's just a cinematographer. He doesn't have that kind of power.

Yep, it didn't open in Mexico, Turkey, Spain, Norway, Belgium, Denmark, Brazil, Netherlands, Colombia, Sweden, France, Japan and Russia yet.

The final total grosses are sure not gonna be that bad.

Yes but not so bad for a movie that got savaged by the critics and the press. The numbers could've been worse.

Embarrassing for who? Please don't say embarrassing for the fourth richest actor on the planet.
