Warner Bros announced today that it is moving the release date of Legendary Pictures’ big-budget 3D action tent pole Pacific Rim, which Guillermo del Toro is directing. The studio has set its bow for May 10, 2013, staking it at the head of the summer film pack. It had earlier been set for July 12, 2013.
Can you imagine if Del Toro and Nolan ever did a film together? The special effects would be glorious.
I mean, they have very similar approaches to their use of effects, though Del Toro uses way more CGI than Nolan usually does (though, with stuff like Hellboy, you kind of have to at some points), but they both generally use practical effects, with CGI to make said effects look even better, as well as doing things that aren't physically possible.
From acclaimed filmmaker Guillermo del Toro comes Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ epic sci-fi action adventure “Pacific Rim.”
When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes-a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi)-who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.
Oscar® nominee Guillermo del Toro (“Pan’s Labyrinth”) is directing “Pacific Rim” from a script by Travis Beacham (“Clash of the Titans”). Thomas Tull, Jon Jashni and Mary Parent are producing, with Callum Greene serving as executive producer.
The film stars Charlie Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”), Idris Elba (“Thor”), Rinko Kikuchi (“The Brothers Bloom”), Charlie Day (“Horrible Bosses”), and Ron Perlman (the “Hellboy” films). The ensemble cast also includes Max Martini, Robert Kazinsky, Clifton Collins, Jr., Burn Gorman, Larry Joe Campbell, Diego Klattenhoff, and Brad William Henke.
In the hands of some directors, this would sound silly, but in Del Toros hand, it sounds fucking awesome.

I really can't wait to see something official from this.
"It doesn't matter how you get knocked down in life because that's going to happen. All that matters is you gotta get up."
Indiewire notes that Idris Elba will be playing Lieutenant-Commander Stacker Pentecost – previously just “Sensei,” a role created for Tom Cruise – commanding officer of the washed-up former pilot played by Hunnam.
"So much of the creation of the movie was having the best creative experience I’ve ever had in Hollywood,"
"When we’re talking about the physicality of the fight, we ended up building several blocks of Hong Kong. And literally demolished them. We built a building and then we took down the buildings.
"We built command centres of the robots that were the size of the house. We started them on hydraulic rigs that shoot and elevated them and moved them round so you could really get a sense of the physical nature driving a robot like this."
Wait, wait.
"We built command centres of the robots that were the size of the house.
