This needs a blu-ray release now.
The Flowers of War (2011)
I love this movie, and I'm in tears for at least half of the runtime.
I'm so happy I'm Chinese and don't need subtitles to understand it. Lots of their dialogues are great and some things will inevitably be lost in the translation. And sadly, the greatest of them that got lost will be the Title! The Chinese title for this movie is at once beautiful and tragic, and very meaningful. Such a shame it can't be translated.

This is a great film. Can't wait to get the blu.
It's derived from the classic Chinese novel of the 18th century, 紅樓夢 (Dream of the Red Chamber). The twelve female lead in that novel were called 金陵十二釵 (Jinling's Twelve Beauties). The lives of every single one of them ended to an extent in tragedy.fakescorpion wrote:The Chinese title for this movie is at once beautiful and tragic, and very meaningful. The Chinese title for this movie is 金陵十三釵 (Jinling's Thirteen Beauties).
Jinling is another name for Nanjing.
