They are reavers and pirates. The Greyjoys' House words essentially translate into 'we just take your shit because we're too good to work for it'.

So yeah Hodor's death might just be the saddest moment of the entire series but I'm not sure I fully understand how it all went down. Yes Bran is largely at fault for going greensighting all on his own and getting touched by the Night's King but he was warned upon his return that they had no time and had to leave. Next scene he is greensighting with the Three Eyed Raven after the warning that they had to leave causing all that delay when the Night's King attacked.

I just rewatched it and it's an all-timer. Top 3 Game of Thrones episode for sure. Every scene has big shit happening, it's insane.

Best first half-season so far, like someone said earlier, each episode seems to get better than the last.

even if I have a sorta controversial nitpick...

Jon's death in the end was pointless...? Except for the speculation between seasons, it would have been very easy to go straight from 509 to 604 in Jon's arc with him seeing Sansa and receiving Ramsay's letter and deciding to embrace his Stark name. He doesn't even really seem to be changed by the event. Maybe there'll be some payoff later, but that cliffhanger was lame. All the scenes were great, but I don't get why they did it (D&D and/or GRRM)

For fuck's sake, couldn't they just keep von Sydow alive just a bit more? First Star Wars, now this.
Although his relationship with Bran was getting way too Dumbledore/Harry sque than what was healthy but still. (I mean the whole deal was just recycled elements anyway for the most part Gandalf/Pippin, anyone?) Good episode, nothing really exceptional. I'm standing with critics about this season so far, the weakest of them all by far.£

Pretty much guarantee there's more consequence to Jon's death in the books. GRRM always promised that.

Thoughts on the Kingsmoot and the issues I brought up?

I really really like Asbaek as Euron, the whole thing was pretty epic and I'm happy they got rid of the dragonhorn

But there were indeed logical problems. I kinda liked the casual kinslaying admission even if it was weird lol, but I don't get how Theon and Yara stole so many ships with such a small crew. The montage was great though, the Ironborn theme is probably my favorite theme of the show.

Yeah, I really liked a lot of it. Logistically it just hasn't held up for me.

I agree though. At this point Jon seems exactly the same and his resurrection was pretty easy with no real mess or complications. Yeah, he hung Olly but he murdered him after all, he also quit being lord commander... but that's it? At the moment unless more is revealed I have to agree a bit underwhelming upon reflection.

The Ironborn are morally reprehensible. At first it struck me as... Well... A bit odd that Euron immediately wanted to kill Yara and Theon but on the other hand, it's not that far a stretch for people like them tbh. Bit sad that the Ironborn never really stick together... Would've been quite powerful to see Euron, Yara and Theon standing alongside getting the Ironborn to Meereen...
It was good to finally see the Kingsmoot but it didn't go down exactly as I thought, because of Yara and Theon noped it. I guess they're going to travel to Meereen to get there before Euron, which they should easily succeed at. Don't really know what they're going to do with Euron in the show... I guess that given the pace of the season he's going to arrive in Meereen at the end of the season right? However, I doubt Daenerys is going to marry him. Even more so if Yara and Theon get there first and pledge their allegiance without expecting an exchange (as marriage) since that would be pretty pointless ;) Looked like Yara and Theon got quite some ships with them, perhaps they're enough for Daenerys?
Asbæk is terrific as Euron btw, well cast, definitely looks like Allen lol.
book spoiler:
I figure to put this under book spoiler since we're undoubtedly going to find out that R+L=J soon. I think that makes his resurrection more important, he simply has to live. I also think that the Prince who was Promised is a trinity. Jon and Daenerys being two of those three. It wouldn't put all the focus on just one character. I would be fine with Jon being that but I prefer something like a trinity.

Jon's death is significant because it frees him from obligations to the Night's Watch in a way that makes sense to his character while also learning, obviously the hard way, the price of acting arrogantly for the sake of moral righteousness. Essentially, he repeated the mistakes of his father*. Going forward it will be interesting to see if he has more diplomatic tact and patience having recovered from being betrayed. He can correct the mistakes his father never could. Even if the show doesn't explore this in an obvious way I think it's something we should pay attention to.

Also, Virgo, isn't the consensus by critics and fans that Season 6 is really great? Although to be fair I thought critics massively overrated Season 5.

For me, Season 4 > 3 / 1 (drama/scale vs cohesion) > 2 > 5

If Season 6 continues at this quality it'll probably be just behind "3/1" if not equalled. I'm incredibly impressed with 90% of it, with some of this stuff being the best content the show's ever done.
