Cheekiness is often just playfully saying what you really think, haha. I just took it as you saying home theater systems can't begin to measure up to going to the cinema, so you don't try very hard on them.
Well that is true, but I see the logic behind having a home theater. For me, if I'm crafting a home theater, it's going to be designed like a cinema, which requires more funds than I have access to... a lot more lol.

At the moment we just have a decent sized TV but no speakers even or anything fancy :(
But when I'm older I'll have the greatest home theater/screening room ever :D

I'm serious when I say, one of my main motivations for working my ass off to get into the career I want, is to have the paygrade necessary to make a bitchin' home theater.

One of the engineers who helped craft the IMAX sound setup has this bitching pad in like the forest somewhere (at least that's what it looked like in the pictures) and he has like a mini IMAX sound system going. I think IMAX is like 12K watts or something, his was like 7 or 8 and this was for a home theater. I can't remember for the life of me where I saw this article at. He talked about the soundproofing he has installed in his house, it was borderline creepy lol.

I wonder what kind of home theater I could build with 50 grand. Hmm.

If you find it I'd love to see it. As for watts... now I'm running a roughly 1,300 watt system.

Okay, it's my fathers setup. Sorry I don't know all brands.

A very good plasma TV (PANASONIC)
Blu-ray player (PS3)
DVD player...I think also Panasonic
And a 5.1 audio system

I think that's all and I really enjoy watching DVDs on the plasma TV :D

Gonna be moving soon, and I'll have room for my own setup. I was wondering if I could get some advice on quality and pricing of the components I'm trying to get. Would you guys have any recommendations on HD projectors? I was thinking of getting a 50 inch HDTV, but a projector might work better for the room I'll be using. Also, any surround sound system recommendations? I was thinking maybe a sound bar below the screen and some speakers for the back.

Sound bar + projector, speakers config= no go. Sound bar for a TV is fine, but it will never hold up in a home theater environment with a projector, a screen, etc.

It all depends of the room you'll have, what's more interesting for you. You can get damn good 1080p projectors for 1000 bucks easily, check this website for info and reviews: http://www.projectorcentral.com/home-th ... ectors.htm

Watch out for DLP projectors because some people can see rainbow effect, meaning you'll see streaks of color over the image, try it out before.

If you have the room (you need to check where you'd be sitting, and then determine the size of the screen (you can either go for a fixed frame screen, that's what I have, or you can go for a motorized or manual screen, or even get some special paint for your wall) ), then go for the videoprojector, you'll get more bang for your buck.

For the speakers, try to avoid the all in one type systems (like the BR player/amplifier, along with 5 speakers and subwoofer). Look for good associations (the best is to go and listen in a store or something) btw amplifier & speakers.

If you don't have the room, or would like something more discreet, go for the big big TV, although it might be worth it to wait for the 4K TVs to come down in price (and it's going down very fast), then you can go for the sound bar if you want, but having heard sound bars, and good ones, they are very frontal, the surround effect is pretty faint, that's why you should go if you can for the whole set of 5 speakers & subwoofer.
