We can begin voting on the first four matchups of directors. Voting will end on Sunday the 5th at 11:59 pm Greenwich Mean Time (approximately).

To qualify to vote you must have seen both films in a matchup and can't be the manager for either director in a matchup.
For your vote to count please post both films/directors and highlight your winner (This will hopefully keep people who haven't seen one of them from voting illegally).
For appearance sake, please just post your votes here and keep discussion in the other thread.

Here are the first group of matchups to vote on.

Match 1 Darren Aronofsky (Pi) vs. Robert Zemeckis (Back to the Future)
Match 2 Kryzystof Kieslowski (Camera Buff) vs. Frank Darabont (The Mist)
Match 3 Francis Ford Coppola (Godfather Part II) vs. Roman Polanski (Chinatown)
Match 4 Werner Herzog (Fitzcarraldo) vs. David Lynch (Eraserhead)

UPDATE: Round 2 voting is now beginning

Match 5 Danny Boyle (Trainspotting) vs. Akira Kurosawa (Ikiru)
Match 6 David Fincher (The Social Network) vs. Michael Mann (Heat)
Match 7 Clint Eastwood (Unforgiven) vs. Kevin Smith (Clerks)
Match 8 Coen brothers (No Country For Old Men) vs. Martin Scorsese (Taxi Driver)

The same rules apply and this will stay open through the 7th.

Again please don't vote unless you have seen both films in a matchup.

Please read the rules and vote!

Good luck to all contestants.

Match 4 Werner Herzog (Fitzcarraldo) vs. David Lynch (Eraserhead) - I can't vote as I manage Herzog.

I have to admit I had a hard time picking a movie. Most of these matches are rather close. I can't imagine how difficult it will become in the later rounds.

These were some interesting matchups. I am sad to see that Polanski will probably go down, Chinatown was a fantastic film.

Agreed. However, Coppola's manager took a gamble by using his best movie in the opening round, which would theoretically render him more vulnerable to get eliminated in the later rounds. Let's wait and see..
