The best films from my local film festival that just ended:

1. Last Night in Soho
The most effective horror film you'll see all year. Not a second is wasted.
2. The French Dispatch
It's really similar to GBH, but who cares? It's hillarious.
3. Pig
It's Mandy or John Wick, just that he's a chef that doesn't kill everyone he sees.
4. Mass
Ann Dowd unsurprisingly steals the show.
5. Drive My Car
I gotta watch more Murakami-based movies. I liked Burning more than this, but it's still fanastic.
6. Titane
what the fucking fuck
7. The Card Counter
First Reformed didn't really speak to me, but this one is good. Watch it for Oscar Isaac.

Also saw Annette, Zola and Sundown which were all pretty underwhelming.

Loved: French Dispatch, The Father, Annette, The Eternals & The worst person in the world
Really liked: No time to die, Illusions perdues, Shang Chi, The Last Duel
Liked: Dune, The Suicide Squad, Pig, Last night in Soho, Free Guy, The Courier, Quiet Place 2
Mostly Enjoyed: Black Widow, Presidents
Watchable: Cruella

Unexpected, but I think Riders of Justice is at #1 for me so far.

I think my current top 12 is something like:

1.) Spencer
2.) Pig
3.) Evangelion 3.0 + 1.0 - Thrice Upon a Time
4.) The Green Knight
5.) The Power of the Dog
6.) Flee
7.) Dune
8.) The Suicide Squad
9.) Riders of Justice
10.) The Mitchells vs The Machines
11.) The Last Duel
12.) Inside

(8-12 are all fairly close)

Still have a lot left to see.
