Really dig SLP but tried to watch American Hustle several times after initially enjoying it and have failed to get into the film. Never watched JOY.

This cast is crazy and always down for Lubezki.

sorry how is american hustle a 'pointless' film again

Because I think it is. It’s empty and has nothing to say. I’m hardly alone, it’s aged terribly in many many people’s minds...Durden is just one of a million cases feeling that way after revisiting it.

My god what a cast, also Lubezki is shooting this. Can't wait for this. Joy was a disappointing movie for me, maybe I need to give it another go.
I remember when Tarantino was asked which director do you think directs better his ensemble cast he said David O. Russell :).
He actually said he’s the best and Russell is second best. LOL

I’m still fond of The Fighter and Silver Linings playbook. I stand by American Hustle being a bad pointless film. Did not even watch Joy after how bad a taste American Hustle left and the meh reception. I hope with all the time off he can go back to making something as good as the two I mentioned. That said he’s by all accounts a deplorable and doesn’t really deserve making such a prestige project with such an amazing A list cast.
Yes!
I'm reading all this excitement about his movie and I'm like "have we forgotten who this guy is?"

Same Amy Adams who allegedly cried on that same set to the point of Bale needing to interfere?

I don’t even hate Russell’s movies themselves (I liked Three Kings...a lot!!), but it’s okay to side eye not only him and this project, but also every single name so happily attached to this. We’re bound to hear some stories about this some years later.

And then Bale works for him again... which is a little different than first time working with him...he knows first hand.

Not gonna lie its a little hard to root for O. Russel...but he seems to get actors to return and not denying the level of talent involved. His actions in the past still leave a dark cloud over his accomplishments. Not one I'm willing to ignore either.

David O Russell's a piece of shit and probably shouldn't be working, but his movies net actors nominations and thus they want to work with him.

As for American Hustle, I know it has a reputation for 'just doing Scorsese' but it's not. Stylistically yes, a bit, but the actual content is very different. Oddly closer to Catch Me if You Can, essentially a film about how we all wear masks and tell both others and ourselves what we need to hear to make it through daily life. Thus the many scenes of characters creating personas of themselves in mirrors, etc, etc. And like Catch Me if You Can, it's a high-energy caper on the surface but a deeply melancholic film underneath. It still really plays for me, and the performances are amazing. One of Bale's best. Same with Cooper.

So I would not agree it's "pointless." It's actually my favorite Russell!

That’s perfectly fine. I respect your opinion, I just never cared for it and not because I thought it was Scorsese karaoke or whatever. That had nothing to do with my reaction.
That said Wolf destroys it and has aged far better. ;)
