The whole MCU has been a giant medicority that makes lots of money and that lots of people make sound more interesting than it actually is.

That was always the case. It's just now we hit the point of diminishing returns so its flaws are now merely more visible than they were previously. The visual blandness, the shoddy CG, unmemorable music, the paper-thin characters, the lack of stakes due to all the 'witty' quips...all of that was baked into the entire thing since phase 1 (with a few exceptions here and there).

The MCU has just refused to grow artistically because it keeps making money without having to do so. If the audience keeps going to these films without demanding better it's at least partly on them imo.
