Sony Meets With Andy Serkis Amid 'Venom 2' Director Hunt
The actor-turned-director was in town this week for meetings with Sony brass.
Andy Serkis is in the mix to tackle Sony's Venom sequel, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

But Serkis, who is known for his critically acclaimed and beloved work in the motion capture space as well as a turn as a villain in Black Panther, is not up for acting work in the project. Rather, he is being looked at as a potential director for the sequel to the 2018 hit that starred Tom Hardy as a journalist who joins with an alien symbiote.

Sources tell Variety that Andy Serkis, “Bumblebee” director Travis Knight and Rupert Wyatt are among the directors meeting for the coveted job on the film that has Tom Hardy set to return in the title role. Insiders say these are just meetings and no one has moved into a front-runner position.

Sony hopes to shoot the film in the fall.

I was game even before him, but that would be awesome if they could get him!

I'd rather they get Travis Knight. He has a better track record as a director.

The movie has the same writer as the first one. I somehow doubt that Serkis will save it.

I'm trying to decide if more scenes like the restaurant scene from the first one are exactly what this sequel needs, or exactly what it doesn't need.

The first movie wasn't good, but scenes like that were stupidly entertaining.

I don't care who gets picked to direct, as long as they allow Hardy to do as much crazy shit as he wants.
