Danny DeVito's Penguin is different from the original character, not just in design but he has a different backstory too but that never bothered me.

Fanboys get hung up on this kind of stuff too much. In 10 years they'll have 20 different versions of the characters anyway lol.
Uhuh, uhuh ... this you?

Singer never really came close to the aesthetic of the comics (it's like the guy hated colourful costumes or something)

Yep, a whole 3 years ago...if you recall, I wasn't overly thrilled about Thor 3 initially either. Maybe you can spend hours looking for my initial thoughts on that film and hold that against me now too lol. People's outlook changes all the time and especially with this kind of thing I'm flexible depending on what we're talking about so...it's true that Singer never came close to the comicbook aesthetic of the X-Men. I might also say that the first 2 X-Men films are among the better ones in that series despite that fact and that I ultimately don't care a lot about the X-Men costumes (though admittedly I'd like to see at some point what a film with those costumes looks like).

If you had asked me 3 years ago about the Riddler costume in The Batman I might have been more of a purist when it comes to aesthetics because batman comics are the only American superhero comics I have read consistently. Now I'd say that throwing hissy fits about costumes and characters who look different from their comicbook counterparts (which is sadly what happens online) is just a little silly imo.

At this point we've had so much fielty to the source material and so much superhero material that I think I now appreciate it more when adaptations do their own thing.

All I'm saying is if I was flip-flopping this hard after only 2.5 years, I would have been more humble about it, instead of "oh, look at these noob fanboys obsessing over this and that" lol

Looks like lots of fun and I can't wait to see what Christian Bale does with that character.

This movie was like if someone would spend 300 million dollars to make a joke that wasn't funny.

By this stage, we've seen a considerable amount of fidelity to the source material and an abundance of superhero content. Personally, I've come to value adaptations that take creative liberties and bring something fresh to the table.
