i haven’t stopped thinking about this movie since i saw it so that’s probably a good sign. it’s anti-la la land but also not

was lucky to get to see a 70mm print and this is the first movie i’ve seen in quite a while that would not have been possible to shoot digitally (sorry mr yedlin). linus cooks the highlights to the point an alexa 35 would be screaming for help and then crushes the blacks and turns the contrast up to 100000. all things you could “do” digitally, but it would look like shit

Not going to pretend it's perfect, but damn, I loved it. The first hour is perfect. Then Robbie's and Calva's characters' arcs don't evolve enough to maintain the rythm and perfect pacing of the first hour. But it's still very good.
And there's just so much talent there! Chazelle's camera movement are constantly creative, complex, beautiful, I love the violent quick cuts that Cross and Chazelle are pushing further than ever. And the music!!!
