"Edge of Democracy"... Worst. Documentary. Ever.

It's full of lies.

The only real surprise to me was the sound mixing nod for Ad Astra and no editing nomination for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Otherwise, everything looked to be about as expected, for better or worse.

Looks like I'm not watching the Oscars this year. What an embarrassment.

Needed more Ad Astra and Lighthouse
It blows my mind that Joker gets a nod in the cinematography category and not Ad Astra. Cringeworthy indeed, but that's par for the course with these awards. ;)
Loved Joker but it shouldnt have gotten the nod over Ad Astra there, even though Joker's color grading was phenomenal

I think this is the first year where I’ve heard of all the BP nominations.

Adam Sandler should've been nominated.

Solid choices overall. Obviously there are some omissions but this has been a stacked year so I could see many movies being nominated this year. I haven't watched 1917 and Little Women yet but I've enjoyed all the others to some extent. The Irishman is the weakest on the list for me but obviously I'm in the minority and I still think this is the favorite to win. I'd probably have Farewell, Lighthouse, Midsommar or Us in there as well but I really can't say the nominated movies don't deserve it. The same can be said of acting noms. I would probably nominate Dafoe, Sandler, Bale or Shuzhen but other than maybe Theron, I don't know who I wouldn't nominate in their place.

It's also scool to see Star Wars and Avengers be nominated when it comes to blockbusters. And Corpus Christi being the second Polish movie in a row to be nominated for Best Foreign Film.

I guess the biggest shame is that neither Us nor Midsommar got any nominations but it was totally expected coming from the Academy. At least The Lighthouse got the totally deserving Cinematography nod.

Side note to the pointless Banderas debate: I'm pretty sure that "person of color" will be considered an outdated phrase in about 5 years. I'm amazed it's already not considered as disparaging.
