We're getting a high budget fantasy show on a prestige television channel. I don't know in what universe that's bad news. There's nothing any more "cynical" about this than HBO greenlighting the original pilot in the first place.

I was just mocking Batfan on what he does in almost every thread outside of Game of Thrones.

mmkay. I do see a lot of folks echoing that sentiment and I don't get it. Like, if I told you we're getting a mega budget fantasy TV show on a prestige channel, anyone would be excited. If Game of Thrones is the way we get there, great.

Setting it in ancient times also circumvents the majority of problems prequels have. This is as much a "prequel" to Game of Thrones as Knights of the Old Republic is a "prequel" to The Phantom Menace.

Yeah, I agree. I’m all for this. That being said I wish it did not sound so white walker centric. Targaryen Civil War would have been more interesting for me.

Naomi Watts will star in the “Game of Thrones” prequel pilot at HBO that hails from Jane Goldman, Variety has learned.

The exact details of Watts’ character are being kept under wraps, but it is known she is playing “a charismatic socialite hiding a dark secret.”

Casting is now underway for THE LONG NIGHT, the first of the GAME OF THRONES successor series to ordered to film.

I could not be more excited. Welcome to Westeros, Naomi.

Jane Goldman scripted the LONG NIGHT pilot and will be running the show. She and her team are busy in London right now, neck deep in casting, and I expect some more names will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, there are still a couple of other possible prequels in active development. I can’t tell you the subject matter of those projects, no, sorry, wish I could.

HBO has set Josh Whitehouse to a lead role in HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel pilot from writer Jane Goldman and author/GOT co-executive producer George R.R. Martin that has Naomi Watts heading a fast-forming ensemble cast.

Whitehouse is a British actor who starred in Northern Soul and most recently wrapped the lead role in The Happy Worker, the David Lynch-exec produced drama directed by Lynch protege Duwayne Dunham. Whitehouse next stars in MGM’s musical retelling of the cult classic Valley Girl, playing the lead role originated by Nicolas Cage.

Watts is a powerhouse get, but still not sold on Goldman helming this thing based on her previous work.

Then again Benioff and Weiss weren’t exactly writing diamonds before GoT so who knows
