aside from feeling like an empty shell of fan service, my main qualm is that the shining has no spooky lighting, which is a key part of the film's language, but this film is nothing but spooky lighting. this feels cheap and plagues me with doubt about whether the filmmakers actually understand the shining or what made it work

It's also jarring to see the scenes in the Overlook cut with the scenes in other locations. They did a fantastic job recreating certain scenes from the first film (yes, they are recreations) but they clash with a completely different style, and quite generic lighting and blocking in new scenes outside the hotel.

Great running time.
Fascinating that you can tell it without even seeing the movie :P

The runtime means it is paced really well, or it's going to be insufferable.

Based on the latest posters and commercials they are really going all out to remind people this is a sequel to the Shining. It would of been nice to keep it secret they go back to the Overlook Hotel.

I really enjoyed It: Chapter Two, but if they took out half of the flashbacks of the Losers Club as kids, the pace would have flowed better.

Insufferable? Anyway, encouraging running time.
