Didn't quite appreciate what a monster TFA was "domestically" until now. Golly.

It very likely will. It's still got another 40 million or so domestic in it and should be able to get the rest from foreign box office to clear Avatar. Disney will do what it needs to fudge the numbers to make sure it's the all-time box office king.
Well it isn't playing in China anymore though

Disney will cipher off money from Toy Story 4 or Lion King box office to get there or do a rerelease for Labor Day weekend.

And then what, that same Disney will re-release Avatar in 2021, just in time for A2? Lol.

Deserved Best Movie win at last night's awards. No other film this year can even hope to surpass this masterpiece. There's no point for the Academy in waiting until next year when they can award the statues right now with the same end result. Dread it, run from it, destiny still arrives.

an unadjusted gross of 2019 isn't much, even for 1983

Hard to imagine anything surpassing GWTW ever. Actually I read somewhere that it was the fourth most seen in cinemas film of the sixties, because it was regularly rereleased.

I hope they rerelease it again, it's a magnificent film and I'd love to see it on the big screen.
