From imdb.

Freddie is watching in the theater, it is available on netflix streaming. Episode 12, "The Deep Boo Sea":

In Casper's first theatrical cartoon, Casper tries to commit suicide, but he can't because he's already dead. In the second Casper theatrical, Casper makes friends with Ferdie, a young fox he unsuccessfully tries to protect from hunters. The bullets go through Casper and kill Ferdie. The short ends with the friends meeting again in the afterlife.

Wowza.

What got me, was at the end of scene before to cut to the water is the whole 'the captain never leaves his ship'.

It's frustrating, and not in a bad way, I just need to get some sort of closure with understanding much of this film, especially the ending. Thinking about this film makes me more enthralled and enticed with every passing minute. I want explore but I know that I won't get definitive answers. In fact, I don't think I even want definitive answers. I don't think any film has ever made me feel like this.

I JUST WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT IT DAMMIT!!!
Have you read prince's medium-length analysis on the film? It's pretty much spot on tho I'm more the supporter of a slight different approach I think the movie took. The ending, and about 2-3 scenes, including that reading of the letter... are pivotal to my theory. Though I'm scared getting into it cuz I know how much I'll have to write  But I can PM in short after you read prince's "thesis" cuz it has the same basis... it's just that the interpretation is different.
I got about halfway through prince's analysis and I had to leave to go somewhere. I will have to read the whole thing soon, I really enjoyed.

However, nearly every analysis I've read on The Master has given me conflicting viewpoints and confused me even further. As PTA himself said in an interview, the characters themselves are unknowable and this makes the film as a whole somewhat unknowable, which has led me to believe much of it is open to interpretation. Whether that was PTA's intention or not, I can't say, but that's just where I am with it right now.

When Freddie says "I feel good" after Dodd makes him recall those memories, it brings the absolute biggest smile to my face.

Phoenix did an incredible job making the viewer feel through him.

Found that interview, unfortunately the hosts didn't give him much time to talk.

Just finished my second viewing. I wrote up a very short something about the film on Letterboxd. Thought I'd share here, but it's nothing particularly insightful.
Well, it's over. My PTA marathon has concluded with what many consider to be his crown jewel. Unfortunately, it doesn't come together as well as and is not as easily digestable as his real masterpiece, There Will Be Blood, though it comes pretty darn close. The relationship between Freddie and Dodd is one of the most perplexing on-screen relationships I've ever seen. I thought the second viewing would clear things up for me, but I now realize that isn't true. This is a film that will leave its viewers forever hopelessly inquisitive, which is something reflected in both of the main characters. Each have their own reasons and needs for associating with each other so closely, and each have different things that they get out of their relationship. The character study of Freddie Quell is so perfect that its at times indecipherable, exactly like humans naturally are.

I applaud PTA for this brilliant display of filmmaking, but the amount of time spent questioning what is going on and what symbolized what was at times a little much for my simple mind. Otherwise, I would have to give it a 5/5.
I was very surprised that not a lot changed to me the second time around, yet it still managed to feel like a fresh viewing. I will probably keep returning to this more than most PTA films just because of the mystery that shrouds it.

I'm glad.

I really think PTA's intention was for the film to remain somewhat unattainable. I absolutely love it but even I constantly question the film, and I've come to the conclusion that's how it's meant to be.

Leonardo DiCaprio admits his “biggest regret” is turning down the chance to star in Boogie Nights.

The Titanic star — who is currently riding high at the box office with summer blockbuster Inception — says he still can’t forget the one dream role that got away.

“My biggest regret is Boogie Nights,” says Leo, who lost the role of porn star Dirk Diggler to close pal Mark Wahlberg. “I’m a huge fan of (director) Paul Thomas Anderson but the first time I met him for that role I hadn’t really seen much of his previous work. Now I love that movie."
