Why is it ridiculous? I'm asking in a serious manner.

Saying I'm 76 years old now and don't have much time to tell female centered stories after five decades of making movies led and dominated by white straight male characters.

Individuals who choose to be part of a problamatic system and don't lift a finger to correct it, have to accept their fair share of the blame in the end.

even if i thought filmmakers should be pushed to create roles as you suggest, scorsese has done more for the visibility of world cinema than any other filmmaker period so to suggest he hasn't "lifted a finger" is categorically incorrect. dude's done more good than anybody.

That's fucking PC bullshit Virgo. Problematic system? Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Casino, Hugo, The Age Of Innocence, Goodfellas, The Wolf Of Wall Street, Aviator, Cape Fear, all have strong female performances in them.

Him saying it's a waste of everybody's time is as honest and truthful as it gets, WHY the hell would you force a role into a film if it doesn't demand it? So now every film will have to meet a certain quota regardless of what the director wants or what the story demands? No, enough with that nonsense.

You will not force anything on a director. If Scorsese or anyone else prefers overall to tell stories with men as leads, what's the problem? There's none, the director does whatever the hell he wants.

The crux shouldn't be on Scorsese to have female or diverse characters in his films. He should make the films he wants to make.

The viewer should be supporting more diverse directors. Directors should be able to tell the stories they want to tell. If you want more strong female characters or more diverse casts, seek out directors who do that and hype them up.

In an imaginary world where Hollywood wasn't infested with racism and sexism for over a century that statement would have been correct.

Scorsese didn't randomly decide to make movies centered on white men. He did it at the time that it was the norm to do it.

It's such of freaking weird thing to say that almost all the stories that I'm interested in are coincidentally focused on this particular group of people who are interestingly enough the centre of all attention pretty much every else in the industry that I'm working in. How utterly convenient.
