If nobody goes down, this is what I assume Nolan had in mind:

This episode was amazing start to finish. I was so tense! I'm kind of tempted to see the flip-out on facebook. Kudos to the writers for making me worried about so many characters.
And, as it turned out, the promo was all misdirection. That last sequence was brilliantly done -- even though it seemed like everything worked out, the fact that Simmons was still out there was palpable. Almost down to the wire, I didn't know who was dying. And the phone ringing the whole time. Again, brilliant. It's especially sad since Simmons was about to kill Carter at the end of last week's episode. :( Nice tie-in to the pilot, too.

On another note, I love the scenes with Fusco and Shaw, especially when Lee was threatened. Oh, and I didn't see Fusco's escape coming at all. Or Finch with the taser.

it reminds me of batman. any women who usually got close to bruce or even fell in love with him always ended up hurt or dead.
which is why he can never truley love someone as long as he is batman. john reminds me of the same thing. remember his past love before he met finch ? now carter ? the only difference is carter was willing to give herself for him. her journey as a character came to an amazing but tragic end. she knew starting this war that she could be killed and accepted it. best episode of all three seasons for me. season 3 has been the best season of the three so far. bravo! bravo! bravo!

I agree.
I love how the writers in POI can put in subtle humor in serious/intense scenes. Look at the fortune cookie scene between Simmons and Fusco.

People who didn't like the ending can go to hell.

Episode 10 Promo:

Amazing Promo. Simmons is gonna be in a world of pain. Getting "Many Happy Returns" vibe, but much more darker.
Root dual wielding pistol. :o :wtf:
A shot of Simmons punching Fusco? :o

Bad decision Simmons. Fusco choked his captor out like a madman! What do you suppose he'll do to the guy who killed his best friend?

Well that hurt like a Mother*#cker. I sometimes get so attached to characters that it is really painful when they are killed off. I was hoping no one would bite the dust because I love all the characters so much. But all that aside this was a fantastic episode and credit to the creators for going forward with such a brave move. I'm sure many viewers would be hurt and upset but I think that is alright, that is expected when a beloved character dies.
I am going to miss Taraji P. Henson and Carter. Carter's storyline this season has been epic and TPH kept knocking it out of the park. Hope she is recognized someway come awards season. The kiss though did feel a bit awkward.

She also found out about the Machine all on her own and got a yellow square. Reese and her dialogue at the police station was almost word for word same as that of the pilot.

Did anybody notice the streetlight change from green to yellow to red as the phone kept ringing with Reese hugging Carter's body and Finch standing in shock?

Oh Simmons, you are such a despicable yet fantastic villain. Can't wait to see Reese's roaring rampage of revenge next week. Also I loved Fusco and Shaw's scenes together.

Last night's episode was amazing. I was totally heartbroken by the end.

Had the wildest thought:
What if Carter turns out to be Control? Probably with her own access to the Machine had it altered so that it wouldn't peg her as a person with a Yellow square until she told Finch about it? I maybe totally wrong, (Pretty sure I am) but wanted to get another crazy theory out of the way.

That was one of the best episodes of television I have seen in a long time. I was so on the edge of my seat and invested. My emotions were all over the place. Thank you Jonathan Nolan. Great show
