But Samaritan wouldn't want to destroy The Machine, right?

Um, Yes it does. It flat out stated it in The Cold War. You think it attempted to take down the power grid in YHWH for the lolz?!

Remember how Cara Buono & Kevin Kilner (Governor Nick Dawson) were both credited in the press release of Blunt? Don't think those were typos (like Elias/Scarface/Garrison/Greer listed in the one for Wingman). In Cara's Instagram, there's a shot of her on set as a brunette with Teddy Gibbons that was posted in January (around the time the episode was shot). A friend and I were talking about this over the weekend, and here's what we could come up with:

For Martine, it could've been one of these three:

1. Backstory Flashbacks: Greg mentioned that they'd planned one for her as being an investigator for the United Nations, right? It may have covered stuff like the shit she had to deal with, and how it triggered her into working for Samaritan. Could juxtapose that with present day stuff with her doing some recruitment of her own, turning people to 'the light', much like she was. Gives it a nice, pseudo-religious touch. Probably didn't pace well with the rest of the episode, which maybe why it was cut.

2. Could've been about hunting down Root. Greer mentions in Search & Destroy, that she had her chances at taking her down, but couldn't do so. They may've filmed material to cover that, before deciding that it probably didn't pace well with the A-story, and dropped it. Heck, she & Root could've even had a sitdown chat over coffee (exchanging death threats), but that would've been too similar to the Reese & Dominic one in the same episode, so there's that.

3. Simplest one: Meeting with Dawson. She'd be the liaison of "Mr. Hayes" (Greer's alias in Prophets), just like how she was implied to be Samaritan's intermediate with 'Ms. Thompson' back in MIA, giving him directives to carry things out. Easy enough to fit in, in comparison to the other two.

For Dawson, it's either the third option, or something else I read about how it may've pertained to his character passing an amendment on marijuana laws in New York state. One of the characters reference the legalization of the drug in the dialogue, and maybe they shot footage showing that, but decided perhaps it wasn't necessary or summat.

TL/DR? Here is some kickass tech porn in the form of POV shots of Samaritan analyzing the marijuana industry. Besides Root's storyline, it's my favorite thing about the episode.

part of me is a little surprised they put terra incognita as one of the representative episodes for the "For Your Consideration" campaign. i thought they would put maybe prophets or control-alt-delete. but If-Then-Else is the best choice, its considered by many to be the best episode of the series you put it up front so kudos!

Aasif Mandvi deserves best guest actor recognition.

And funnily enough, I rewatched Search and Destroy Last night.

I'm glad Aasif Mandvi chose to submit for Guest Actor. Dude's the best number of the week yet.

With regards to the actor's submissions, here's what I think they could be:

Jim: Terra Incognita
Kevin: Wingman
Amy: The Cold War/M.I.A.
Michael: YHWH
