2.5 is usually the going multiplier around box office forums. Is 3.5 a recent change?

Shazam was considered a disappointment or just ok is because of its genre. Comic book movies are usually expected to do insane numbers so Shazam only getting 350M compared to the 500M-1B other comic book movies get is just okay.

For a wholly original movie not based on previous material or part of a franchise, the box office for this is amazing.
You're right in most of your post. But you also gotta remember that studios usually get a smaller percentage of the gross with non-blockbuster films. So Shazam! likely got a higher percentage back than this.

That is why I'd be far from calling the box office of OUATIH as "amazing". It's not horrible, considering the state of cinema now, but it's far from an amazing success. You could call Django's results at the BO a success, maybe even Inglourious, and a film like Inception's as amazing. This is at best "doing ok all things considered".

Just saw this.
I really like what Tarantino did with Tate. Every scene of hers are wholesome – pretty uncharacteristic of QT to do scenes that way. The film succeeds as an affectionate tribute to Tate, I think.

Was just going through my old vacation photos from last year and realised that I saw this being filmed on the Universal Studios back lot.

Finally caught up with this today and loved it. My favorite Tarantino flick since Pulp Fiction. My only regret is not going to see it opening weekend with a packed crowd. Would have been a blast.
