Hedwig and the Angry Inch

And before the jokes, it's not Harry Potter related. Jeez read another book.

This was a really fun movie and I liked this funny and queer take on the rock opera. I'll def be downloading the soundtrack. The songs are amazing.

since i was out late friday and will be out again sunday, i stayed in tonight and had myself a double feature of two terrific japanese movies i hadn't seen, both from 97.

The first is Fireworks, a sort of anti-revenge movie that's formally daring.

the second is Cure, Japan's answer to Se7en, a serial killer procedural that mainlines dread and unfurls into social critique. It was a *Very* disturbing movie to finish at 3 a.m. on a saturday.

both are awesome

Are both films on Criterion Channel or any other streaming service?

i pirated the fuck outta them artemis i'm going to be 100% honest

elevator to the gallows, a super neat pre-nouvelle vague noir that's sorta on the cusp of the zeitgeist in that it breaks a lot of rules not but as many as breathless or whatever, is on criterion tho.

a) the number of randomized drop kicks took me by surprise

b) i actually hate myself for always planning and then not watching this for years

I think Cure is on The Criterion Channel and my friend said it was one of the hidden gems he found there.

So this week I wanna try to watch The African Queen, Nights of the Cabiria and After The Wedding before they leave the service. Hopefully next week I can get to Cure and Elevator to the Gallows.

i really couldn't get into african queen, but part of that is that i find hepburn grating most of the time

EDIT: except in lion in winter, where she's amazing
