The 2025 "I Know What You Did Last Summer" is a train wreck. Instead of giving us a true legacy sequel like "Scream 4," where the original cast shines, it shoves them into the background. The plot crawls along, finally dusting off Ray and Julie long after the audience has stopped caring, while a parade of forgettable newcomers' stumbles through the story. Only Danica manages to show a spark of intelligence; the rest are as dull as dishwater, and the killers' motives are laughable. Stevie’s boyfriend inexplicably drives off a cliff instead of just stopping the car and talking to her. Teddy, in a baffling move, shrugs off his jacket instead of saving him and somehow ends up killing the man. Stevie could have gone to the police, but instead, she embarks on a killing spree. Meanwhile, Ray is frozen in 1997, joining the chaos as the town tries to erase that year from memory. He even murders true crime podcaster Tyler Trevino, who is in Southport digging up the past. If Tyler is there making a podcast, clearly 1997 isn’t forgotten. And then there’s Sarah Michelle Gellar, dressed like it’s still 1997, but visibly older. It completely breaks the illusion—dead characters don’t age; they should have left her in 1997.

Final Destination: Bloodlines would have been much better if it had been set in 1969; the storyline completely fell apart with the jumps to 2025. The modern-day characters were so clueless they didn’t seem remotely capable of surviving a horror film—and they didn’t. The whole premise revolves around cheating death, but they all die, and the ending was absurd. We’re taught as kids that you can’t outrun a train or run in front of one. Yet, when the freight train derails, its cargo crushes Stefani and Charlie. Instead of using the alleyway and hopping the fence to escape, those two fools ran in front of the train like they thought they were the Flash. The late, great Tony Todd deserved so much better.

Although Netflix has achieved significant commercial success with Zack Snyder's film series, such as Rebel Moon and Army of the Dead, recent executive decisions under CEO Dan Lin have raised questions about the company's ongoing support for Snyder's projects. Lin has reportedly referred to Snyder's fanbase as bots and has discontinued several franchises associated with Snyder. Additionally, he has declined to fund projects including The Fountainhead and a proposed LAPD police drama. The rationale behind Lin's appointment as CEO and his approach to these creative partnerships warrants further examination. Concerns have been raised regarding the objectivity and consistency of these decisions, and further transparency from leadership would be beneficial.

Halloween time is here, and I find it fascinating how Jamie Lee Curtis, despite her legendary status, was rarely seen as the classic beauty expected of horror heroines. She never quite matched the glamorous image of stars like Sheri Moon Zombie or Scout Taylor-Compton from Rob Zombie’s films, or the likes of Heather Langenkamp, Neve Campbell, Jessica Biel, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, who all became icons in their own right. Even in the original Halloween, P.J. Soles was often considered the standout in terms of looks, while Nancy Kyes also seemed an unlikely on-screen presence. In contrast, Rob Zombie’s 2007 remake assembled a cast of striking women—Sheri Moon Zombie, Hanna R. Hall, Danielle Harris, Kristina Klebe, and Scout Taylor-Compton—which, for me and others, gave the remake an undeniable edge over the original.
