I find this whole project odd. There's nothing left that makes it "Disney". I don't know if it will be a success. Audiences went to see the original because of Murphy's dragon and the typical Disney songs. This looks like a typical wuxia movie, though a really well-made one.

pretty sure people saw the original for more reasons than the dragon and a few songs..
also, the new Mulan doesn't hinge on familiarity with the original. Disney is well aware it isn't one of their most widely seen titles.
Personally, I'm looking forward to this.

I only ever watched the German dub of the animated film and I loved it for the story, the voice acting and the animation so I wouldn't say that all people went to see the original because of Eddie Murphy. Mulan is a legendary story and at the age of 10 even I knew that and that was interesting enough for me.

Didn't mean it as insult. I am just surprised that Disney has went away from the successful formula that made the other live action remakes huge hits.
I actually find the project more interesting without all the typically Disney troupes, but the Chinese censorship stuff is off putting. But I can't see the family audience raised on the Disney stuff flocking to this, could do worse than Dumbo.

The fact it's a massive historical epic with great trailers will help. It will really need international markets, though.

Bacon, there is literally no source in that article that indicates it's getting pulled completely. If nothing else, it'll get delayed and released later.
That presents its own issues, however. A big delay could mean a lot of piracy and it would hurt the box office either way.

I'm not saying it's certain. I'm laughing at the fact that this is a possibility for a film that Disney has worked so desperately mutated and compromised to please Chinese audiences.
