I think not being scary is exactly the main issue with this new Joker. With the previous versions, you could look them in the eyes and there was nothing. Completely dead from the inside. No sign of humanity. You should never be able to say what part of his behaviour is act and what part is real, which is exactly why The Killing Joke's finale is so effective. Because it breaks the cliche for one moment and then leaves you cold because you know it's never going to happen again.

Ayer and Leto's version on the other hand is totally human, he gets offended, he falls in love and he's looking for his own self interest rather than some mad idea to bring down the integrity of his surrounding environment. A freakishly acting mob boss is not a fearsome adversary for the Dark Knight. He's supposed to deal with this kind of crap everyday. Joker's sense of nihilism and the fact that he can laugh in the face of death is what makes him terrifying, not because he does weird faces.£

Good post.

Joker laughs in the faces of mob bosses and doesn't care about love or money. This one does. He seems more infatuated with Harley and expensive clothes/clubs/cars than he does Batman or chaos.

More of this Joker simply reveals more of Ayer's lack of knowledge (Virgo said it best) when it comes to these characters... and Leto went too far, forgot the core. I can only hope this is his Loki from Avengers.

Basically, I stopped watching SS:Ex when he said to Harley: 'I can't be loved, I'm an idea'... you don't say that out loud, never.

I want Birds of Prey spinoff and that's it, SS needs to be buried deep or deeply re-invented.

He's crazy. Get it? I hope Leto's Joker doesn't become the Dean Ambrose of the DCEU.
Lol oh God he is so terrible in this role, soooooo baaaadddd. I remember being excited when I heard he was cast and now I don't think I'll ever get that excited for him in any role again.
