Tom Holland Joining ‘The Current War’
Spider-Man: Homecoming star Tom Holland is joining the impressive cast of The Weinstein Company’s The Current War, the Alfonso Gomez-Rejon- directed drama about the battle between George Westinghouse (Michael Shannon) and rival Thomas Edison (Benedict Cumberbatch) to create a sustainable electricity system and market it to the U.S. Katherine Waterston just joined, as Westinghouse’s wife Marguerite Erskine, with Nicholas Hoult playing Nikola Tesla.

Holland, who first brought out his youthful iteration of the webslinger in Captain America: Civil War, here will play Samuel Insull, Edison’s right hand man. Michael Mitnick wrote the script, which takes place in the late 1880s and revolves around the two titans and their battle over the supply of electricity. Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, which was backed by Westinghouse Electric and a host of European companies. Timur Bekmambetov will produce with Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk and Film Rites’ Steve Zaillian and Garrett Basch. TWC is eyeing an early December shoot.

Brand new cut of the film will see light of day thanks to....Scorsese. Really interesting story

http://deadline.com/2019/04/the-current ... 202586812/

tl;dr - Weinstein made the director rush a cut for TIFF where it got panned (33% on RT to date), Weinstein made his own cut after that then the whole thing as we know happened and TWC's new owners were gonna release it internationally...but then Scorsese steps in and the new owners give the director money for reshoots and recut

I just watched the Director's cut, it really is a great film with a phenomenal score that kind of takes a while to take hold..

With that being said, being a native of NJ it's cool seeing where Edison worked. Probably why I'm a little more bias towards liking it more than others.
