I'm sure that he spent years watching the director work and got the hang of 80% of the work, but it's that last 20% that makes it all seamless, and he hasn't got it yet.
So, Dolores smuggled herself out of Westworld at the end of season 2 in a Charlotte Hale Host body and brought 5 additional "pearls" with her. So, that makes 6 pearls in total. 4 of the pearls we know are all Dolores and one is Bernard. We don't know yet the who the final pearl is, another Dolores or somebody else.
And they haven't explained yet why Dolores would bring out a pearl of Bernard, who is now actively trying to stop her from completing her mission?

I initially found the editing to be pretty heavy handed but by the end I felt fine with the erratic nature of it. It turned to a great experience for me
