UnREAL - Season 1

UnREAL revolves around on almost identical show to The Bachelor called Everlasting. So, a rich white man needs to choose a wife out of a selection of walking stereotypes. But, the show's main focus is on the behind the scenes shenanigans of the reality show. Essentially, we watch the producers manipulate their contestants to make entertainment, which are often dramatic and embarrassing situations. What I really liked about this show was how layered it is. On the surface it seems like a traditional sentimental drama but its actually a much darker, clever commentary on reality TV. The show makes fun of cheap tricks producers use to create dramatic conditions but as the show progresses you kinda notice they’re using those same tricks on you. The show also poses a lot of moral questions, like, is it worth it to give up your humanity in the name of making a good television show and what does that do to you? Do the contestants deserve to be exploited even though they did sign up for this experience?

The show sorta drags at times, a bit over the top, and the story was not original at all, but the commentary and the statements the show makes is what intrigued me.
