Time to update MCU ranking list.

Captain America Eyes Return To The MCU As Chris Evans Nears Deal To Reprise Role In Future Marvel Project
In a move that is sure to rock the Marvel Cinematic Universe, sources tell Deadline that Chris Evans is cleaning the dust off his Captain America attire as he expected reprise the role in the MCU in some form. Still vague if deal as completely closed but insiders say its headed in that direction for Evans to return as Steve Rogers aka Captain America in at least one Marvel property with the door open for a second film. Sources add it’s unlikely to be a new Captain America installment and more likely to be like what Robert Downey Jr. did after Iron Man 3, appearing in films like Captain America: Civil War and Spider-Man: Homecoming.

An entire universe without stakes and consequences. Someone on twitter said this was akin to cheating and that cheating is boring and I agree. Also, just because the comics do this kind of stuff all the time, does not make it good storytelling. Without stakes, you basically expect the characters to just come back through contrived means at some point because Chris Evans needs a paycheck and hence something like the end of Infinity War loses all its impact because you just go 'oh yeah, they'll just find a way to undo this'. Not undoing any of this stuff would make for a more interesting but less joyful story, which is why the MCU was always bland, mediocre and boring even at its best. I cannot enjoy a story where nothing about the story has any long-term effects or impact and essentially nothing about it matters. A big, flashy soap opera is fine but don't ever call it the best cinema has to offer.

I think you are mixing preference, as in what is most interesting to you, with storytelling to a degree. Although stakes and consequences are definitely two of the most important characteristics of the latter due the complexity this adds to the fictional world, perhaps making it feel a bit more alive, real or however you want to name it, finding a way to undo a specific conflict within the boundaries of the story doesn't inherently turn it into bad storytelling either. It depends on many factors.

This is not meant to excuse MCU because there is no doubt they tend to follow a pattern of minimizing the possible intricate aspects of their stories to a noticeable extent and, therefore, rely on practicing certain pleasing solutions (let's call it that) on a regular basis. Nonetheless, I'm not going to say it's a franchise completely unmindful of development either because, at least for me, there are 6 movies which I really like and respect that tried to infuse more depth and creativity as a whole, in my opinion. Can rewatch those many times.

On the other hand, for the most part they do make somewhat resemblant movies and aren't that interested in the profoundness of said films if you ask me. So far at least.

I found The Incredible Hulk to be really underrated: all the characters' motivations are clear, there are actual stakes and the drama is not undercut by constant snark and jokes. It feels like an actual movie that way...
