So I take it they're done with Desolation of Smaug?

Yeah, you can rule that off, Freeman will be in it, don't doubt it for a second, this is one of the book's stupid and lazy decisions, you can be sure
he'll be there, awake, and will fight in the battle
No doubt about that.
