I'm not much of a horror fan so I don't feel comfortable commenting on how well crafted the film is in terms of pulling at the audiences strings or whatnot, but it certainly gave me some thrills. The gory awesomeness was insanely fun; I was smiling half the time. The only thing that irked me at all about the film was the cliched digital horror color grade. Cinematography looked good, but the color grade definitely ate a bit of the production value. Fun as hell though.

was gonna write a short review the day i saw it but the lazybug got me

Funnily enough I loved the 2nd half more. It had almost none of the jarringness of the first one, the awfully convenient flashbacks that made the storytelling lack any structure at all. It also made it easy for me to believe the movie. Yes, crumbling skyscrapers, punctured by flying aliens and torn down by terraforming aliens was easier to believe than some of the nonsense in the first half, like Louis climbing icy cliffs just because she saw a lone man walking around. Pretty much like Rrometheus and probably a bit more the movie, in its first half, agressively required the viewer to put up with a lot of stuff. Like Jor El being the one giving birth to that baby. Sorry, that just looked weird, especially with him having his usual kryptonian clothing and so on. An image of him sweating under pressure as much as the mother and having his sleeves curled up would've been more believable, but no, he was just there to catch whatever popped out of supermom.

Then a transition shot of a moaning space cow brings the action from that to a council meeting.

I also had problems with the poorly stabilized steadycam shots in those sequences.

The preachyness of every single flashback scene was obnoxious, even when the scenes themselves were moving. Somehow the movie needed 5-6 scenes that exposed and explained clark's father's guidance and what kind of example he needs to live up to (pretty much like another hero we know) and all of them were from the trailers and went exactly how we could've imagined ourselves. It becomes another thing the movie obliges you to just go through so you could get to the good parts which destroys replay value after the 2nd viewing I bet. That makes the first act an unstructured mess that flows plain badly and that would've worked a ton better if it used a third of the flashbacks to make space for some linearity that wouldn't cost patience.

But then there's the good stuff like how much Cavill truly fills every molecule of Superman and whatever's required from such an image. He's divinely gentle and graceful and talks and looks at people like he'd be able to make room in his heart for every single living soul.

There's whatever goes on between him and Louis and I heard people talking how they lack chemistry but I bet that whatever they had made that impression simply because it wasn't sexual. There was a lot of kindness and care between the two and it was all in the intrigue in their eyes. I stress kindness because that's what I was thinking each time I saw their teary glances and honey-like smiles. For this movie it was enough for them to be simply intrigued by each other and nothing else anyway.

Acting was decent to great all around with emphasis on Cavill because he is simply perfect for this.

The way the camera followed the action was truly remarkable in most action scenes and the action itself was fantastic. Made Avengers look like some cereal-cartoon. There was majesty everywhere and the spectacle reached several peaks. Despite how it looked, supes vs the terraforming engine sequence was something that made complete sense in terms of what kind of scale was required from the action to represent Superman. Although I almost wanted him to dry out like a zombie after that and then regenerate under the sun so that was kinda missed.

Yeah, dialogue was pretty bad most of the times not to mention not missing every cliche in the book, but at its core the movie had heart. I was pretty afraid I wouldn't like it by the time it ended but most of its qualities were beyond redeeming for a blockbuster. Also, some of the confusion around post-destruction Metropolis might be smoothed out by some of the deleted scenes. Hoping for an Ultimate Cut.

Still one of my favorite movies and imo, one of the best sequels ever.

Ironic, when you consider than watching intelligent, capable characters being overwhelmed by the beast/serial killer/angry demon/whatever despite their capabilities would be considerably more horrifying than watching said characters making decisions that literally are dooming them.

In most horror films you are watching the flick to see people die. They make stupid decisions so we can root for their death.

"These guys stayed at the cabin after finding that black magic shit in the basement? Fuck they should die for being so dumb."

I've never really been a fan of the horror genre. I haven't even seen the original Evil Dead, but this one was a pleasant surprise. I mean, it wasn't perfect, of course, and the stupidity of the characters was off limits, but who cares? It was enjoyable and I really had fun with it.

See the original Alberto. Well worth it, likely one of the most purely 'awesome' movies I've seen

Midnight Cowboy.

I can't say much for the film despite it's accolades. Thought it kind of led to nowhere, although I suppose that's a major theme. Hoffman's performance is worth noting though. Unreal. If I had to compile a list of my favorite performances, it'd be on it.
