Sorry, had to put it here in TDKR part since great majority of NFs are spending their time here and it needed some recognition! Fast forward this 1979 interview with Tom Waits to the 2:22 mark and hear an uncanny similarity to Heath Ledger's Joker from The Dark Knight.

Could it be that Heath used some of those, like the actual Tom Waits sound bites, spending his time in a hotel room, learning his ways into Joker's mind? If yes, and seeing this I'd say it's a given, that would be pretty fucking cool. Tom Waits+The Joker=Perfection

But not just his voice... OMG, little twitches, hand gestures, a tic here and there... He's currently on 80% of The Joker.

haha, yeah the cadence and enunciation sounds like him

this shows you never know where the inspiration for a character will come from...Heath was just an inventive and playful actor, and he did it without weighing down on his psyche

Heath was creating the joker while in London, and he would often work in Gilliam's studio where he was prepping Parnassus...so maybe upon being introduced to Tom Waits and researching him, he made the connection of using the voice

Yeah forgot about Parnassus, Waits was there! Connections connections... Strange how it all comes together. Glued with some other ticks Joker's been using (like licking his scars) and Lindy Hemming's costume/make up... Voila, behold - The Joker.
