By your explanation, I'm 100% sure that the original has been weak story-wise. Dormer is such bad guy in what you explained. I'm not interested in watching the original unless its other elements are attractive. When I first watched Nolan's Insomnia I considered it my least favorite of Nolan movies, but last night re-watched it and paid better attention. Now I consider it among other Nolan's masterpieces and I'm glad that by this Nolan established himself as a powerful guy in cinema by remaking a movie which some directors don't dare to touch. :goNF:

Remakes usually suck but Insomnia is one of the few that stands out. But I still enjoy the original more. It is more gritty and has not a "happy" ending compared to its counterpart remake. It was shot in my town, was cool to watch Stellan in action. I am not much for Norwegian movies overall but whenever Stellan starrs in one it is worth checking out. You guys should check out Zero Kelvin some time.

Was the remade Insomnia a happy ending movie?

Compared to the original, the remake had a "happy" ending. I am not saying the remake has a Shawshank Redemption ending or anything.

Which then makes up for [very] different endings between the two. "Live as a monster or die as a good man" comes to mind.

Completely forgot that Insomnia is actually a remake.
