What does this film have that a 13 year old can't see?

The famous 2000 film that put Christopher Nolan on the map tells the story of a man on the hunt for the man he thinks killed his wife.

I asked my dad if I could see the movie and says that it's too violent. From what I've seen in the parental guide I don't understand it. Either my dad thinks it's too violent or what it says in the parental guide is more violent and disturbing than what you read.

This ain't a big action movie, though it has a little violence. There are two fight scenes and two kills. Also it contains footage of someone using drugs and contains dirty language.

Where I live the ratings are different then the US. Here it's not named by R, X, Pg and that kind, but only with a number which is the minimum age. There is ALL, 6, 12, 16 and 18.
6 are movies like Harry Potter, 12 are some action/thrillers/dramas, 16 are basically all movies except those with nudity/porn, those are 18.

Even though theaters are forced by law to check ages, it barely happens here. (note: a child of 3 won't be allowed at an '16', but if your 12 you could probably get in easy!)
This law doesn't apply at home. When I am watching a DVD, I can let small children watch too. Though everyone recomends to stick with the rating.

To be honest, if I should rate Memento, I would rate it 12. There is a little of this and a little of that in the movie, but not much. Though, I think you should listen to your dad. I come from a rough country, we are used to much more in TV and Movies!
David emerges from the store slowly. He braces himself against a parked car and then keeps on walking in a nightmarish daze.

WE PULL BACK as David blends in with dozens and dozens of ordinary people, walking on an ordinary street, in an ordinary city.

What movies do you like? It's got nothing terribly explicit, however, it is quite disturbing. If you feel you will get the most out of it, I think its ok.

Actually I saw this movie when I was 13 on TV, 3 years after it's release and I was amazed by it, I think is not violent, is just mean some times and complicated, my dad is a huge movie lover too and he hadn't see it by the time I was 15 so I was like: wtf you haven's seen Memento! we bought the DVD and saw it, my dad was very impressed too. 8-)
I hope I had have the chance to see it on the big screen, but back in 2000 with only 10 years old, well, it would have been a little difficult to understand. :)

Its a dense, mature movie. I dont think its too violent. But you have to really focus when watching it. Its not light hearted or easy to follow and requires multiple viewings. Evidently your father doesnt think youre mature enough to see it, but its not about not being able to handle violence. Its about understanding the film.
