Some people really underestimate how well written TDK is.

Yeah, all very true. What I did like about TDK's prologue was how he most likely destroyed people's expectations of how they were going to see the Joker. Most people were probably expecting an origin story, but as soon as that dialogue hits, the audience knows the Joker is fully formed, and it's pr...

Another Director similar to Nolan?

Duncan Jones seems to have similar sensibilities to Nolan. Quite a dark, cynical world view with some mind-bending existensialism thrown in for good measure.

Some people really underestimate how well written TDK is.

Well, to be fair, most of the dialogue in TDK's prologue is spoken by Joker's thugs, who you wouldn't expect to be the most poetic of orators. I liked the bank manager's rant about the decay of even criminals' values and honour. And 'I believe whatever doesn't kill you simply makes you... stranger' ...

Some people really underestimate how well written TDK is.

More seriously...

The prologue introduces the Joker, but holds off revealing which of the clowns he is until the end of the scene.

Batman's introduction in the film pulls a similar fakeout with the copycat Batmen, until the real Batman is revealed.

I like that parallel.

Nolan's Water Bottle OCD

lol@the video This is amazing  Pretty soon we're going to have a video of Nolan scratching his head, and someone's gonna comment and say "Omg, I scratch my head sometimes too, it must mean I'm a genius film maker" :P You know, Chris also reminds me of myself. Even more so. Sometimes I wear a su...

Some people really underestimate how well written TDK is.

So uhh who ACTUALLY read all of that... Summary of all of the above posts: The Dark Knight's script is an underappreciated masterpiece full of depth, themes, emotion, philsophy and great characterisation. It has excellent structure with patterns you might notice on multiple viewings, and great dial...

Some people really underestimate how well written TDK is.

I should have clarified. I personally do not feel the need to criticize the film for an alleged lack of subtext. However, while I can see where people are coming from when they make that complaint, they don't really have a leg to stand on if that makes sense. On the other hand, the dialogue in The D...

Problems with "The Prestige"

Although The Prestige is almost a perfect film- like all masterpieces, it has a few problems. My sole issue with the film is the ending credits. I loved the cut to black- and on my first viewing, which was after I saw TDK and Inception- I was saying, "YES! This is such a Nolan-type ending! It's per...
