Ok, come on.
Is nobody else here watching this?
Season 2 has been some excellent science fiction so far. The characters have deepened, the pacing has ramped up, the visual effects are dare I say better than in Season 1 and episode 5 (most recent episode) was just fucking fantastic.

Re: Arrival (2016)
It's not my favourite story in Chiang's anthology, but it is very well written and functions just fine as a short.

9/10 from me. Best film so far in a largely bland year.
Oh, and if anyone was wondering, this is the piece that plays

Re: Doctor Strange (2016)
I'd probably give it a 7/10. Not much to add really, except the film hints at greater moral ambiguities within its narrative without really exploring them, which robs it of a significant amount of dramatic heft. To say it's aggressively safe would be an understatement, but it's still a lot of fun. O...

Re: HBO's Westworld
On a thematic level, given the show is somewhat concerned about the merging of the old and the new - advanced computing and biomechanical technology with the Western stuff, modern day 'civilised' humans relapsing into 'primal/old' savagery when consequence is taken away (not unlike Golding's Lord of...

Re: Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016)
I don't see what there is to argue about. This is Giacchino. No matter what, the score's gonna sound like what plays when you hit the "demo" button on a cheap electronic keyboard. I've always thought his scores for the Star Trek films have been pretty decent. Even so, you do realise film music is h...

Re: HBO's Westworld
I feel like this episode was a waste of Neil Marshall's talents. This is a guy known for set pieces, so give him a set piece. Now the episode certainly wasn't bad, but it was definitely the weakest of the three so far. It lacked the confidence of the pilot and Chestnut , and I second the point that ...

Re: HBO's Westworld
Shannon Woodward is horrendous. I'd say that's more to do with the fact there isn't really that much to her character, at least so far. Hopefully the next episode will change that, because she's the most undercooked character on the "Operations" side of the show. All we know about her as of yet is ...

Re: HBO's Westworld
Terraforming within the Solar system, maybe? Anywhoo, I think it's kind of like another case of occam's razor, no need to overthink something that's probably less significant than we think. I think it's our Earth. I agree. Terraforming needlessly complicates the issue. It also doesn't account for g...
