Re: The Book

For what it's worth... try cutting your work without music altogether. The editing, pace, sound, etc, should all work to tell the story first. In a lot of ways, music is a crutch-- especially if it's used wrong. A lot of people either slap it on top of a scene that's not working (but is usually not ...

Re: Your way into Hollywood?

I'm a student Mechanical Engineering, so no film school for me. Besides that, I have no money, nor the equipment, nor the cast and crew to make my own short films. My way into the film industries is a whole different way, because right now I am writing. I already wrote a lot screenplays. A few feat...

Re: The Book

thanks for the feedback Regardless of what anyone tells you, keep one thing in mind-- you made something. And that alone is a huge accomplishment-- it's more then most people who want to be writers or directors can say. The drive to get off the couch and actually DO it isn't for everyone, and I kno...

Re: Your way into Hollywood?

I haven't read it in several years (I believe I have the first volume lying around somewhere), but I feel like there was a lot of great stuff in this book:

Re: Your way into Hollywood?

Oh, and one more thing-- wild lines. SUPER, SUPER important. When you're on set, after you capture the scene, take a few minutes and perform the scene for audio ONLY. This does a couple things-- first, it allows you to get the mic nice and close (often you can't get boom mics as close as you'd like ...

Re: Your way into Hollywood?

I wouldn't say its necessarily the mic-- Rodes are solid. This is kind of a big question, as production audio is really, really tough. You're often at the mercy of traffic, generator noise, neighbors, weather, etc, etc. A good rule of thumb-- if you hear it on set, you're going to hear it on the rec...

Re: Your way into Hollywood?

Film school isn't for everyone. For me, personally, it was the right move. I started at the University of Iowa, then transferred to a film school in California (in a small town outside of LA). I made a series of short films, interned in LA at a prominent production company, and finally raised money ...

Re: Superhero Short

Right now I'm working on Sony's "The Green Hornet." We had a pretty exciting day today as we just released the trailer. We were actually supposed to premier it on Jimmy Kimmel Live, but there was a power outtage (of all things) that prevented that from happening. But you can check it out on Yahoo M...
