Re: Box Office

Here is some interesting data. Oppy's $4.75M on Day 18 is slightly higher than TDKR's $4.73M on Day 18 in the domestic market. TDKR made another $90M domestic beyond this point. So is Oppy now locked for $320M domestic?? Hard to imagine Oppy will have worse legs than TDKR the rest of the way. Very ...

Re: Oppenheimer - Awards Speculation

I genuinely think the only one who has jealous, and quite frankly, bitter peers is David Fincher. Him losing Social Network Best Director to Tom Hooper Kings Speech was the biggest fuck you I’ve ever seen. I feel nearly every big name filmmaker from Scorsese to Fincher to Tarantino to Nolan to PTA ...

Re: 'Oppenheimer' Nolanfans User Reviews

Just came back from my third viewing (again not in IMAX, since the theaters near me are almost fully booked). I don't think my opinions on the film - that it's nearly perfect, etc. etc. - have changed, but it became much more apparent how simultaneously lengthy and short it feels. So much plot is c...

Re: Does 'Oppenheimer' finally tell us that Nolan isn't a Tory?

I’ve always walked away from his films feeling they’re generally apolitical or neoliberal at most Maybe the closest he gets into a “right wing” mentality is with TDKR and mirroring the 99% rallies by villainizing the working class but even then I don’t think he ridicules or makes them into a caricat...

Re: Oppenheimer - Awards Speculation

I think the Adapted Screenplay Oscar is a lock for Nolan. Best Director is gonna be a tough one this year. I hope so. If he won Best Screenplay but lost Best Director/Picture - it would definitely soften the blow, because he at least would have an Oscar of some kind (imho it is a crime he didn't wi...

Re: Oppenheimer - Awards Speculation

Just to play hypotheticals: if this had been a December release, and Mr. Nolan came out and said, "Oppenheimer is my last movie. I'm retiring." and was somehow able to present physical, irrefutable evidence that he would never make a film again, then Oppenheimer would completely and utterly sweep t...

Re: Box Office

I’m surprised the potential is only $380m at most WW for $170m opening especially since there’s no other big movie coming for the summer

Re: Oppenheimer - Awards Speculation

After having seen the film, I think it deserves to win Best Editing for sure. I don't see it winning best cinematography even if it looked gorgeous but a lot of the film just isn't that spectacle based so I can't see it beating out other potential nominees like a Dune pt 2, Ferrari, Napolean or even...

Re: Box Office

I never would have bet that Cruise would be the loser of July (he's not bombing, but he's definitely not overperforming which most people expected him to do after Maverick). But Paramount really played their card wrong. The Marvels was right to move, though people being tired of super-hero stuff co...

Re: "Oppenheimer" Reviews Discussion

Unironically, I do think Armond White is one of the best critics in the industry. I disagree with him a lot and sometimes he does read way too much into a movies politics but he is generally right about the empty propagandistic and liberal sensibilities of Hollywood and I appreciate he is there as a...
