Yea, if anything I think the shot of Batman turning around by the gate is the beginning of the fight... not toward the end. His suit (or at least cowl) is not noticeably wet there. If he were retreating up the stairs, he would still be wet. I think they start on higher ground and end up on lower pl...

Why would Nolan include a major character like Talia, but then only do it in a flashback? That's like us only seeing Scarecrow in Batman Begins for one scene.
