Re: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Genuinely surprised the conclusion to the massive Skywalker saga does not have a longer running time. It’s about 10 mins shorter than Last Jedi. Bacon believed Johnson has left too much stuff for Abrams to handle in the final chapter. Seems like Abrams himself doesn't agree. I do agree with James B...

Re: Knives Out (2019)
What a film  An incredibly clever, funny and thematically rich script. I think this may be Rian's best one and am so absolutely delighted that this almost-impossible-to-hate film comes to the TLJ haters out there. Ana Armas just stole the film. This is completely her film. Craig was great, but...

Re: The Irishman (2019)
I just finished it and I absolutely agree The first 45 minutes is... kinda generic Scorsese-gangster stuff? I really wasn't that impressed. And the de-aging for De Niro is a bit spotty at the beginning. Maybe I just got used to it after. Anything pre-Hoffa was just not as good as the rest But it jus...

Re: HBO's Watchmen
Yeah, I thought Ep. 1-4 were too much based on mystery-box narrative, 5 & 6 were absolutely extraordinary television. Especially last night.

Re: Last Film You Watched? VI
Gangs of New York A glorious mess. An amazing first fifteen minutes An all-timer performance from DDL Exquisite world-building and sets A solid performance by Leo despite the relative blandness of the writing Yet the film's pacing is strangely uninvolving, especially with the Diaz subplot being abs...

Re: HBO's Watchmen
Yeah I think it's my main problem with the show so far, it's extremely plot-driven.
The Westworld comparison is really spot-on. It really isn't a character-driven show like The Leftovers.
Which really puts a lot of pressure on its conclusion

Re: Untitled Star Wars Trilogy (Rian Johnson)
https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/star-wars-hiatus-bob-iger Indeed, after The Rise of Skywalker opens in December, Star Wars films will be taking a bit of a break from the big screen, per Disney CEO Bob Iger. In an earnings call with investors today (via CNET), he said the films will go "into a hiatus,...

Re: HBO's Watchmen
This is so weird and fascinating.
I really need to see the whole thing before giving it some rating as this is such a giant puzzle that it's hard to really call it great (for me anyway)

Re: Jojo Rabbit (2019)
Really good, a pure candy juggling with different tones. Great acting, especially from Scarlett, Thomasin and Roman Griffith Yet, this was much more mainstream than I was expecting. It’s a film I could show to my grandmother and my 10-year old sister. And Taika was miscast as Hitler, which was anywa...
