I always thought that Nolan films are character study. It's just that it is heavily marinated with complex plot that sometimes it is misunderstood. Those searching for characterization of Eames, Arthur etc in Inception is just missing the point. It is intended to be like that.

A Bug's Life is better than Up and Monster's Inc.

Nolan's vision is larger than life. That's why he's always been compared to Kubrick. Plus, all of his films are his pure vision- he's the writer. Whereas Fincher is just bringing somebody else's idea into picture. I also think some of Fincher's camera movement self-conscious.
